Ok well I want to get an AR-15. But I am told that it is not a good idea. I am told that I would get bored with it and such because I am the type of guy that needs excitment and change very often. I am an adventurous(sp?) type of guy. I am into things like snowboarding (Freestyle, I am the guy hitting the jumps full speed doing tricks and hoping I don't have a bad crash) and skydiving. I am into that kind of thing. I love action. I have some weird fasination with guns also. That is why I am on this website and have done so much research on ARs. But my only uses for an AR would be range shooting and home defense(Not really going to be a use, I live in a very crime free neighborhood. I mean someone could break in but it is very very unlikely. And if I was getting a gun solely for home defense I would get a shotgunn or maybe a Springfield XD chambered to .45 glock. I just read about it on a military website. Sweet gun.) Ok anyways...Supposedly I would get bored with just range shooting.

So that is enough background type info. My question is do you get bored with range shooting? Or does it stay fun? I really don't want to spend $1000+ on something I am going to get bored with. I really don't think I would get bored with it though. What are your opinions. Does just shooting at a range get kind of boring. Also I would only be able to go my twice a month. Is it worth all the money?

I'll be glad to take that "boring" weapon off you when you tire...I've got 5 now, I don't think a sixth would put me to sleep, either.

LOL Not a troll. Trolls can get quite annoying on forums though. I don't really see how you could think of me as one unless you have a different definition of troll than I do. We get a lot of trolls over on another forum I visit. I have over 1700 posts there. Anyways that is my point that they wouldn't get boring. I really couldn't see me getting bored. I think having a AR would be a lot of fun and range shooting would be great. Anyways thanks...h.

Target shooting is fun if you have a few gun-nut friends to go with you.

If you go solo I'm sure it would get annoying really fast.

Plus is you get bored you can shoot from the hip...at fun objects like a stuffed animal your ex-gf gave you. Or pictures....

Get a regular 20" A2.

When you get bored with that, build a target upper.

When you get bored with that, build a flattop M4 upper.

When you get bored with that, go big bore (Tromix, etc.)

When you get bored with that, go SBR (by this time you should be 21 or so).

When you get bored with that, get a DIAS or LL.

If you get bored with that, you're hopeless!

I think the AR pattern has enough modularity to keep you interested for a while. And used guns and gun parts should have better resale value than used snowboards.

Get a 20" A2 or A3

Then spend the rest of your life perfecting your marksmanship with it.

If you only buy one gun in your entire life. That WOULD be boring. But no gun collection should be without an AR of some type.

Depends on the range , but it seems that many public ranges are run by Kerry supporters .

Limited ammo loading or single shot only , Rapid fire is anything more then 3 shots a minute .
Power corrupted Range Officers that make up rules as they go .
Paper targets only , no silhouettes , no pictures of so called humans ( Osama , Saddam , etc )  .
No Steel , no water jugs , nothing that smokes , flashes or goes bang .

Every once in a while I need to rip off a full mag , or shoot reactive targets .
Perhaps I need to get vengeance on a failed hard drive or cell phone , maybe splatter
a can of Spam , or dispose of watermelon or pumpkin

Just be sure to clean up when your done , I hate seeing a place get posted because
asshats leave junk and garbage behind .

If I didn't have a place to do this at least once a year , I would get bored just
punching paper .

OK I don't know where in Michigan you are from but there are some around my house that you can RnR, shoot what the heck you want, shoot what you want and there are NO range monkeys to bother you. [this is not to disparage ROs, BTW but there are some real winners at one of the other free state owned ranges and you can only shoot off the bench since they "fixed"it. Used to be 1 round in gun but now at least it is 5, WHOOPEE!!] All the other range asks is for you to clean up your targets and such, and keep it policed up. I am in lower southern MI by Jackson. My kid is pretty active and he has a blast shooting my ARs and such, but his fav is still the .454 casull because it's a big ass thumper and he loves recoil.
