I posted this in the General forum a week or two ago, without good results. I assure you that I am not an airsofter, and I am not a 12-year-old playing with toy guns. I do have an education to pay for, and currently I just can't afford something dedicated. I understand that Surefires mounted on rails are the best thing going right now, but I was looking for something cheaper, with a bit longer battery life. I seem to remember seeing pictures of ARs with Maglites mounted on them. Does anybody know exactly how this is done? |

If you're looking for a less expensive alternative, that isn't dedicated to a single weapon, you might want to check out the IT M3 tac-light, and a handguard mount from GG&G. You can pick up the M3 for around $100, and the GG&G mount for $25. It's much easier to use, and much brighter than a mag light. www.gggaz.com/products/m3illumrifle.php I like the surefire lights, but the M3 does the job, and does double duty on my SIG P226R. |
| I have an Advanced Armament rail, a Surefire G2, and a Fobus mount on one of them now. It isn't a bad setup, but the batteries don't last long at all. I do a pretty good amount of night shooting(feral hogs and such) and a light that can be used for long periods of time would be helpful. I don't mind the additional weight, and I have a huge supply of D batteries. |

This is probably the route I will go until I can afford a dedicated light. www.gggaz.com/products/dandd.php I don't think I would want to mount a maglight. I will be using a Surefire 6P or G2. My G2Z is bright enough to totally blind a badguy. I don't think I would want anything less. edit** for hogs, I guess anything would be fine. One of our SWAT guys had a HUGE Maglight on his 20" AR. (I have no idea why.). I wish I had asked him how he mounted it. I thought it was kinna goofy at the time because it doubled the weight of the weapon when a smaller light would have worked better. |

College kid reporting in here.. I use a Surefire G2 w/ tapeswitch, scopering, and cheapass handguard rail from johnmasen.com If I were to do it over again, I'd go with a Inova T3. I'ts more expensive, but it's brighter and lasts twice as long (2 hours). Also, no lamps to replace. |

joker, Cheapest route with a maglight is to use duct tape or hose clamps. This is what we did in Special Forces long before the industry caught up to where it is today. We would use green duct tape or hose clamps to mount 3 D cell maglites to our M16s long ago. CD |
| DPMS used to sell a scope ring made for the mag lights. You may want to give them a call and ask. That would be your cheapest route as far as mounting. Hell, I have a surefire G2 mounted on my Ar with SIR system using a scope ring that came in a set of 2 from wal mart for 4.99. Not the "best " route but definitley the cheapest, and it doesnt look bad either (low profile ring). |

I've got about 2,500rds downrange with just a plain Surefire G2 (no shock bezel) in 1" rings. The G2 seems to be plenty durable for AR use and at $29, pretty affordable. You'll only get about 60 minutes out of it; but you could use a 9v conversion kit from Surefire to extend that time out a little bit. |
