Noticed this the other day with my LMT lower.  It fits tight and everything (Bushmaster upper) but it doesn’t look right. Looks like it was not forged right or even ground down a little before the lower was finished. Your thoughts? |

Did you try a different upper? I've ran into that problem several times with different brand lowers and uppers. If its a snug fit and functions fine like you said, I wouldn't worry about it. Reminds me, you should have seen the gap when I put a bushy upper on an Olympic lower  You could have stuck your whole hand in between the two. Rifle shot good and fit tight, so I went with it and didn't give it a second thought.

+1. I don't think I've EVER looked that closely at my AR's. HOLY CRAP! Chrissakes it's a BATTLE rifle! With all due respect, CH, you're one hell of a perfectionist, and I don't blame you for wanting nothing but absolute perfection when you shell out the money we do for the love of these things. Having said that, I'm just happy that everything feels tight on my upper/lower fit, and the thing goes BANG when I squeeze the trigger. If the fit of your weapon is satisfactory, and it shoots, to me this small imperfection just makes it YOURS, it's the weapon's individual character. Other than that, I try to get mine to look as worn on the outside as an Israeli M16 on the West Bank. Clean inside, but safe queens they ain't. I bet I've got a couple that have gaps or worse-if I really look closely-scratches and discolorations on the high points and flashiders. To me, as long as the guts are well taken care of (and mine certainly are) the way it looks outside is of no consequence.

| M4arc-naw...I know. Just having fun, but I REALLY haven't looked that closely at my rifles. I believe what he's pointing out is the lower receiver just above the curved juncture between the upper and lower, and in the rearward area there below the charging handle you can see that the lower appears to be "ground" down a bit. Methinks it's probably a flaw in the casting? I dunno. |
That’s it. It fits fine and works great, just doesn’t look right. All my other arfs don’t have this "problem." And I am a bit of a perfectionist. |
| As long as it works I wouldn't worry about it, but I understand your concerns. When I got my Bushmaster years ago it arrived with some worn spots on the barrel with bare metal showing and the lower receiver looked like somebody ran a grinder accross the flats of the mag well. It shoots fine and now has some good old fashioned wear marks on it. If I just dropped over a grand on it I would want it to be perfect when I got it, but like a new car, it can't/won't stay new forever. |

I actually have a few that I’m looking forward to seeing them a bit worn down looking, that well used look is just cool. I’m not too worried about this LMT lower, it works just fine and as soon as it’s registered it’ll have the LMT 10.5-inch upper added and then have some Krylon added (if I’ve got the nerve by then). |
