Newbie question about AR assembly/disassembly:
I need to remove the barell on my Bushy dissipator so I can send it to get threaded for a supressor. Can anyone tell me whats involved in removing a barell from its upper? I was told I just need to use a barell wrench to loosen the barell nut then the barell just seperates from the upper. I was also told I just need to screw the barell back onto the upper to reattach it. Am I missing anything? What about headspace? Do I need to do a headspace check when re-installing the barell?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you,
John

Look in the "Build It Yourself" section, all your questions (asked and un-asked) are answered there.

1) you need to remove the gas tube.  Punch out the gas tube pin on the FSB then remove the gas tube (warning sometimes they are TIGHT and tough to slide out).

2) Using a barrel wrench you'll need to loosen the barrel nut - which means you'll also need the receiver blocks or barrel blocks to hold everything in a vice while you loosen the nut.

I HIGHLY recommend you download the -23&P (Unit and Direct Support Maintenance Manual) and read Chapter 3.  (the manual can be downloaded from the [Information] button above (select downloads).

You do not need to worry about headspace - that is accomplished between the barrel extension and the bolt - it is not effected and iota by removing the barrel.

BTW upon reinstallation you'll also need some Moly-disulfide grease (w/o graphite) and I'll recommend a torque wrench.

Read The Manual!
