[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Colt LE rifles (Page 1 of 2)

| Just curious as to why these weapons seem to be disliked by so many. I have never heard so much controversy over some roll marks as I have on this forum. Granted, I have a 6920 still NIB, but just curious as to why these rifles are getting such a mixed recieving. Jealousy, Desirability....? |
|
+3 The anger you see pointed at the LE6920 is classic displacement behavior. |
|
Let see Colt introduces the SP-1 but makes it so it won't take any std. upper in the M16 line because of non std. front pivot pin. Then someone develops the Link that converts it to full auto. Then Colt cuts the bottom of the carrier off, then they sear block the lower, then they goto non std. trigger/group pins all to keep you the consumer from converting thier rifles to full auto. So if you want a rifle with non std. trigger pins, and sear blocks then Colt is the rifle for you. |
DH ..... all very true and valid points, but consider Colt's position here. They are one of- if not the only- major manufacturers of 1st quality 'military assault weapons' available to the public. They do not want to be associated with the "illegal conversion" stigma that could, all by itself ruin a 150 year old company, and negate a $100+million a year enterprise. If its full-auto you want- you can get it legally- but to Colt's credit they will not make "made for civilian use" rifles easily convertible Mine aren't ever going to be F/A. Therefore, the carrier, sear block, and trigger parts size issue means absolutely nothing. I just wont bash Colt because they make rifles that aren't easily convertible to F/A- but I am not the lifelong purist that many others here are. Just my $.02 |
zakk- that very same rifle would have sold for $3,000 or more 6 months ago and even then, it would not be a factory brand new version- but rather a 10- to 15 year old, beat to hell, hand-me-down. let's see what they are worth when the states all begin voting on their own individual AWB's. $1,500 will be a steal. Hell, $3,000 may be a steal in a short few years That's not why I buy them, but it is in the back of my mind. (that you will not be able to get them at any price, brand new) |

I just got a Colt LE6920, and I want to know how this differs from the other manufacturers? Does the 6920 have different size pins, like the SP-1 statement above, if so what pins. I never took the pins out of the trigger group, so I haven't had a change to mic them. Thanks, Edwin |
The 6920 has .170 hammer and trigger pins versus .155. If you want an aftermarket trigger simply specify one with .170 pins and you'll be good to go. The front takedown pin is the same as the others, so any upper will fit. Two nice things about the 6920 that the commercial cloners generally don't offer is a correctly sized buffer extension and a properly sized front sight base. If you want to install a Vltor or Crane stock on your 6920 you won't have to shell out $45.00 for a replacement tube. In fact, you won't even have to break the factory staking, because the Colt tube is already correct from the factory. If you want an ARMS, Troy, or LMT rear backup sight you won't have to screw around with a taller front sight post, because your Colt FSB is correct from the factory. Enjoy your 6920, and ignore the shrill anti-Colt bitterness. While some are spewing venom on the Internet your time is much better spent at the range, enjoying your new Colt. I've bowed out of the Colt vs everybody threads for the most part, and spent more time at the range. It's a lot more fun that way |
|
FSB, CARRIER AND TRIGGER PINS ARE DIFFERENT. EVERYTHING ELSE THE SAME. JUST BRINGS IN MORE MONEY CAUSE OF THE PONY. find a local dealler and pay less than 1k like I and others have done. Some have done this and ripped you off making 300 more than what they payed. Be well. |

I would not say everyone! I would not take any semi Colt if you gave it to me! The reason I sat that is because they do not care for the civilian market. The name Colt and the Horse logo ARE NOT WORTH the EXTRA MONEY!! Many other companies make a just as good if not BETTER product and you can swap out parts, uppers, etc. . You can't do that with Colt. The only Colts worth having are NFA! Just my opinion, flame away. Bob. |
6920's are great rifles, no doubt about that. The controversy is simply that Colt has completely ignored the sunsetting of the AWB and has clearly shown, through their policy towards civilians, that they flat out don't care. To some people, myself included, there is no reason to continue to support a company that doesn't support our 2nd Amendment rights, all of them. Especially in light of the fact that we supported them for the 10 years the AWB was in place, their position is unacceptable. Again, the 6920 is an outstanding rifle, however with the selection of other AR makers out there, the incredible array of after market HIGH quality parts, one can buy/build an AR, easily, of equal or greater quality. There is not one part of a 6920 that can't be purchased from another company, with at least equal, often greater quality. Colts roll mark & logo just don't mean squat to me. Not jealousy, at all. It's a matter of basic principle, and until/if Colt ever decideds that the AWB sunset means to them what it means to citizens of this country, they can kiss my fuckin' ass. I don't buy guns for investment purposes, so I don't give a shit what they're worth now, or 10 years from now. That's what my IRA, 401k & mutual funds are for. To me, our 2nd Amendment rights are what's important, not the 6920 "rifle de jour" orgy that is the fad of the moment. There's nothing about my rifle collection that even remotely suggests there's a void created by the absence of a 6920. If you require the purchase of AR15's for investment purposes, I suggest you talk with a financial advisor, because you'll be bagging groceries when you're 70 to pay for your "retirement". |

Anyone who thinks an LE 6920 is worth $1500 buy it. Anyone who thinks an LE 6920 ain't worth $1500 ... DUH - don't buy it. This model LE 6920 is obviously a really popular model and w/ dwindling availability and re-supply means practically non existent , which direction do you think the price is headed ? Buyers are now jumping on the $1400-$1500 deals for fear that waiting will only cost them more money or in all likelihood mean that they will never get one. What reason would Colt have to keep roll marking a rifle in the LE restricted fashion ? Maybe they will continue & maybe they won't. if the latter happens , hold onto your hats cause the price will jump 25% practically overnite. I expect to see this model selling in the $1.7 K range by Jan-Feb. Just my .02 |
While I know people have bought these 6920 for diffferent reasons, jusdging by the ever-increasing interest I am curious if I should just keep my consequtive # babes in the wrapping and box and buy something to actually enjoy shooting, not just looking. As far as investments go, I am only 20 years old so buy two 6920s for less than $2000 a month and a half ago.....and being able to sell in 1300-1500 range gives me a decent return for being in college........ |
I've got 4 Colt AR's and got 'em all before the AWB .... the reason? Colt = Ferrari, Harley, etc. Bushmieser, and the rest not worth mentioning = Your garden variety KIA w/ baby-buggy wheels. |
And BTW ... you paid too much for that Z06 ... It'll be worth 20 cents on a dollar by the time you're finished with it. Certain items have "resale value". |
The same people that care about performance are the ones that DON'T care about resale. |
**I don't know the handling numbers off the top of my head** That's because your alarm clock didn't go off yet. ![]() |
Yep, entertainment has its price. |
What in God's name would be the fucking point of me making the numbers up? Get the hell down off your high horse. Pun DEFINATLY intended. |
Awwww now zakk, you had to go and throw a hissy-fit and say the "F" word, didn't ya? Sour grapes, dude! HA HA HA and LOL Now, stop your yip-yap! |
That looks dangerous...You could put somebodies eye out LOL Nice |
Yeah, maybe so...but your forgetting that the engineers put some actual attention-to detail in the Ferrari.....the Vette, HAHAHAHAHA.......I could have sworn I was sitting in something like a Lumina or worse......same goes for handling and the like. I drove the 05' Vette and can say without a doubt I was way more impressed with my brothers 02' Acura NSX.......a car with actual reliability and value that can outdo a Vette and Ferrari in looks with practicality. |

Okay so I'm compelled to chime in. Colt won't make the change because the LE Model is already made. Why change the 6400c, when they have one already? It's just called LE Carbine. All the 'Evil' features as they are so called are on the LE Carbine. Collapsible stock, flash hider, Bayonet lug. Except that the Bayonet lug is useless on the rifle due to its 16.1 inch bbl. Knife will fit but won't look as it's supposed to. 2nd, for those who are unaware, just because the AWB, has sunsetted, doesn't mean it's gone on a state level. NY adopted the bill as part of its own state gun laws. Therefore, those post-ban guns can still only be sold in NY. LEO, different story. LE prices are cheaper. you can buy the gun for a lot less than what you'd pay for a non LE gun. What's the catch? In NY, You need to be an LEO. Out of the reach of the gun legislation, like in another state you will be able to buy these guns, BUT you will pay top dollar for them. And BTW, don't go out of state and buy one and then get caught transporting back to your home state. It will be just as bad as converting a semi to Full. |
