Yeah, I had Kurt cut one off my BM M4A3 when he turned it down to a lightweight. Replaced it with a fake FS, as it was during the ban. Now I don't want to fool with it b/c I really like the rifle. I get the full 16 inch velocity in a 16" package (V 14.5 w/perm attch lower vel or 16" + fs). The fake fs sleves back over threaded barrel and adds almost nothing to the length, but protedcts the crown. I don't personally see a huge need for a brake on a 5.56. My follow up shots are fast enough. Does this photo mean BushMaster is supplying the US Military *again*? |
NO, you did not just go there! http://img118.exs.cx/img118/9884/jeez.jpg _______________________________________________________________ Eagles may fly, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines! |
Yeah, especially since it can drown out the sound of belt feds in 5.56 and 7.62N, 40mm grenade launchers, .50 Cals, 25mm, rockets, tank fire, artillery... I bet the guys in his unit have made him take that thing off. ![]() |
To hell with the sound, the concussion out of those things sucks ass when it goes off right next to you. Besides, remeber Nelson in Black Hawk Down?
|
Sure, why not? They don't have enough rifles and ammo for all the troops there, so they're issuing AKs. Now you can bring your own gear. Moms are paying for their sons body armor, ACOGs, etc... Is he crawling out the rear top hatch of a Bradley or a M113? If my memory serves me correct, it could be either the rear hatch on a Bradley were they usually have a TOW launcher, or its the M113 hatch. While others consider these vehicle "tanks"... I view the M1 Abrams as the real tank because its got real armor and a bad a$$ 120. |
I think its a Stryker. If you go to that site, there are other pics of soldiers, with the 25th ID patch. Its def. NOT a Bradley or a 113. |
| I see crap like that all the time, less among the DOD guys, but you wouldn't believe the crazy setups on some of the rifles in use here in Afghanistan. Welcome to the world of internet ordering where anybody can be an at home gunsmith on their M-16-4-commando super shorty-carbon fiber XGK 2000 Magnum Aniahlator with ACOG;) |
Serious question: why the heck don't we issue suppressors with all rifles? Wouldn't that help our guys a lot? |
Suppressors have their own drawbacks. For one, they foul the action faster. They also heat up rapidly, further limiting a weapons suppressive fire capabilities. That's not to say that they don't have their place, and they do seem to be becomming more and more prevalent. Companies are even desigining suppressors for light and general purpose machine guns as well as big-bore anti material rifles. |

The way to do this is to bore the comp lengthwise to .312 (5/16) . As is the hole is .250 I have done this and the blast is much less. I am planning on taking one modified this way and one standard to the range to see if there is a noticable lessening in effectivness of the brake, which is what I'm worried about...I will report... Some of you guys crack me up, what with being frightened of loud noises and all... |
