Since the old thread is full…

Is that a real RO635, or is that a sear block I'm seeing?

I wish it was! It’s a Colt Sporter Lightweight registered as an SBR, that the big stupid sear block you’re seeing there. I could really care less about those blocks, but they’re a pain in the a$$ to clean around.

Quoted:
ch139.... what type of mag block are you using in that 9mm?.... and what type of mags does it take?.... sweet set-up you got there.

It’s all Colt, I bought it used just like that (say for the SBR part). So far I’ve got three Colt 20-round mags, a 25-round IMI Uzi mag and a 32-round IMI Uzi mag. The colt mags wrk 100% of the time and the Uzi mags work most of the time. I know just enough about this stuff to screw it up; I don’t do too much work on my own things, including cutting Uzi mags, the two I have look terrible. I’d much rather save my pennies and dimes and pick up some more Colt mags, I think the 20-rounders look just right in that little rifle.

Quoted:
ch139: Why are the bottoms of your 5.56 mags blue?

the writing on the bottoms of the mags have been filled in with blue spray paint. When I was in school I used to go shooting with a bunch of different people and a bunch of us would usually show up with ARs. It’s easy enough to tell who’s weapon was who’s, but when I came to mags, it can get real difficult to tell who brung what. Not that anyone is out there trying to steal from anybody else, but when there’s 50 or so mags kicking around, how do you know you’re taking home your own gear. One of the other shooters is an iron worker and painted all his tools orange, he said that was to differentiate his tools from someone else’s. Apply that idea to your arf mags… you probably don’t want to paint your entire mag, but a couple dabs on the floor plate to fill in the lettering and
there you have it. My color happens to be blue.

Quoted:
It looks like he filled in the lettering with blue crayon or china marker like he did with the "fire" and "safe" lettering.

Fire and Safe as well as the snake and all the other info on the other side is spray paint.

Quoted:
I like the background used, I think it does a great job with the pictures.

Thanks Stickman, you’re the guy I’m trying to emulate, your pics are some of my favorites. Until just the other day I haven’t had a site with enough bandwidth to host bigger pics, I think that really makes a difference. I got a little Canon A80 for my birthday and am still learning how to use it. I really wish it was a simple as my SLR. Digital SLR is next though. I don’t have any lighting equipment, so most of what I do is with natural light or jerry rigging some old clip on can lights and white poster board or paper plates for reflectors. The background there is just some heavy canvas covered with some netting (all for the ghillie suit). I’ll keep working on it, we’ll see if anything else turns out.

My AR collection is extremely humble, I'm still in college.
However, I am a strong believer in using what you have. http://www.geocities.com/steverizley/shooting102.jpg

The camo was an end of summer experiment, but the stock was added later, and I haven't had time to paint that too now that I'm back at school...it will eventually be sprayed, however.

Frens,

Thankyou, we are debating right now whether to keep it like this, or to make everything green.  The way it is now tends to break up the outline more than an all OD Green version would, but I figure to do a carry handle in green and then figure from there.  The stock is a slightly different shade, so I'll redo that at some point as well to make it all the same.

Stickman, your project green looks great.

How do you like the MEGA receivers (upper & lower)?

What other brand of parts are you using on the build?

Thanks, Chris
