OK, I've had experience with exactly TWO buffer assemblies in my life: One that goes with an FN ("Lulu") that is somewhere in Ft. Jackson and one that goes in my home-built FrankenRifle. Now, the buffer ass'y in Lulu (theM16) had quite a bit more mass than the one that came with the NoName Lower Receiver Parts Kit, in fact, NoName Kit's is really on the flimsy side compared to Lulu's. My question is: Is this something to be concerned about, or do M16s have heavier buffer assembly? Will my flimsy buffer ass'y hold up to the pounding it will receive from hot .556 loads and .45ACP? Thanks in advance! |
| First I didnt know Buffers and springs came with lower parts kits as none did with my RRA lower kit.The buffer should be like the one you had in your service rifle I beleive the standard one weighs 5.5 ounces and a carbine is 3.5 I could be wrong on the weight.Where did you get the kit that the buffer and spring came with it?When you say more mass do you mean size or weight? as it could be an early M16 buffer.I beleive the design was changed a few times form the first M16s to M16A1s. |
Ah, you're correct! I got the buttstock (along with the buffer assembly) at the same time and the same place I got the lower receiver parts kit. It's been awhile and I lost the paperwork (i.e., receipts) when I overhauled my filing system, but if memory serves me right, it was Florida GunWorks (it was a while back...). The buffer assembly weighs alot less than the service rifle's. |
