Hi and thanks for looking.
First question: You must remove the flash hider before being able to change out Front sight bases correct? Is it possible to do so without removing it? (for example with a 14.5" barrel where the F/H is permanently attached)
Secondly: How difficult is it to change out a FSB yourself? (post-to-noban config)

Thank you!

Correct, unless you dremel cut the FSB off.

See above.

VERY difficult.  It's super simple to remove and replace the same FSB.  However, you cannot just go get a preban version an pop it on... because the taper rins or striaght pins (depending on barrel manufacture are fixture drilled together, and wont line up.

You only option is to get a FSB that uses set screws to re-attach, then you are money.

If you are thinking about doing all this just for a bayo lug, maybe you want to rethink that.

This link covered FSB removal:

Send it to Kurt's Kustom with $25 and be done with it.

Serveral people on here ask these questions.  Some people stress over trying to find a gunsmith in their area to thread a barrel and the work comes out like shit.   Other consider doing this work themselves and they end up spending more time dicking around and spending more money than just sending it to Kurt's.  I have had several projects done by him and they all turn out perfect.

So I could install a weaver block easily if its one that uses set screws? I thought about taking the A2 FSB off and installing one but everyone said it was hard. hmmm...may do it now.

No, its not hard at all.  Look at the link above I posted.  Pop the factory FSB off, slip on the new block, tighten screws.  A monkey could do it.  Even one named BoBo.

How does the gas system actually work on the sight block? I am assuming there is some type of hole in the barrel possibly? I could be way off there I am not sure. How hard is it to actually get the new sight block lined up correctly?
