Hello, Looking for a decent rail forend that will accommidate at light and a grip. I was leaning toward the First Samco M33 guards in OD, but the YHM rail fore end that does not require gunsmithing looks good as well. There is about a $40 price difference. What I want to know is, are the YHM in spec enough to use with a Tango Down vertical grip and maglite? As a third option, are there any other rail fore ends that DO NOT require removal of barrel and gas block? Thanks. D-R |

M33s are better than M44s but they will not accept a TD Vertical Fore-Grip (VFG). The newer YHM hanguards will accept the TD VFG. BTW DO NOT use a maglight for a weapon mounted light - the D &C units are too big & heavy and the AA sized units bulb's will come out under recoil (they are only held in by friction). Spend the $30 and get a Surefire G2 at a minimum. |

Sorry about the dupe thread, the YHM sounds good. I thought I had heard rumors that they were out of spec or some such, but hey, they sound like the cat's meow for pretty much everything. Oh, and regarding the Maglite: I should have specified the *modified* Maglite, using the momentary switch and LED conversion from Opalec. This setup is as bulletproof as any Surefire I have ever seen/used, and uses AA. If Surefire decided to make flashlights that could take AA (and their excuse that lithium lasts longer is fine, but there are AA lithiums availible), they would have my business. Granted, the Surefire has more going for it in terms of accesories, cool features (built-in momentary switch, had to mod my Maglite), and being insanely rugged. I just feel that the Maglite is able to do the job for me for now. Thanks everyone, and PLEASE don't take this as a flame against Surefire. D-R |
I'm familier with the Opalec modification, I use it in several of my Mini-Maglights. Durability isn't an issue as you pointed out. Which momentary switch are you using? The tape switch or some kind of replacment push button tailcap?
While Surefire doesn't - there is another company that is starting production of an AA powered LED light that puts out 60-65 Lumens. I should have one from the first production (due any day). I will be posting a review when it arrives (and the cost is very reasonable). |
I dicide for the extra money on my new LMT M4 to go with Troy MRF-C it is FF and looks a lot better than YHM and has T-numbers on all four sides and is even with my LMT flat-top.and is stamped MRF-C M4/203 PATENT PENDING on the side.I think it will take a Tango-Down, I hope so I should get it in the mail their vertical grip and pistol grip anyday now to put on my LMT M4.![]()

Forest- I am using a nice little rubber tailcap switch from Flashlights.com., the one for the Streamlight Jr.. I actually bought two types, the Ram and this one. The Ram had a little red plastic button, was ok, but the Flashlights.com is by far the better of the two. Better feel, waterproof, and extremely inexpensive (I hesitate to say cheap, because it it not *cheap* feeling). They are about four bucks, best money I ever spent on my light. I always get comments on these babies, people seem astounded by their durability and convenience. For mounting on a weapon, there is a tapeswitch that I am looking at, forget the maker. Please let me know when those new lights come in! Very interested! Supertrucker- Do you have pictures? How easy were they to install? Cost? Where did you find them? Sounds very cool my friend! D-R |
For those of you looking for that review - I've got the preliminary one posted in the Lights & Lasers Forum |

YHM 2-piece, definitely. I just put one on my shorty AR. Rock solid, good buy for the money. Can't tell much difference in this handguard and the freefloat on my Bushmaster. Easy to install, no tools required. TD grip, Fobus flashlight mount, SOG grip all mount just fine. |
