I posted this in the optics/sights section but didnt get any replies.

My eotech came from the factory with the locking bar on the mount installed upside down.
The dovetail part need to be flipped over so it grabs the rail properly.
I know removing the torx screws voids the warranty, i dont care. i just want the damn thing to work correctly. the mount as is doesnt hold zero after shooting for a day, and ive had it pop off a few times while handeling the weapon.
this will be mounted on my new Beowulf, and i know the recoil will pop the sight off as it is now.
anyone ever remove the torx screws to remove the metal cover?

Rather than voiding your warranty, Id go without for a while and just send the thing back so they can make it right.

I'd send it back to save my warranty. EO Techs customer service was great to me when my "down arrow" button quit working and I couldnt shut the unit off. I emailed them and told them what was going on and they emailed me and told me to send it back for service.
I Priority Mailed the sight back to EO Tech on a friday and had it back barely over a week after I sent it (monday). They even cleaned the unit up and made sure everything else was up to snuff.

I traded my Aimpoint for an EOTECH

I would send it back.  They will fix or replace!

+3  I've seen more problems here with Eotechs than Aimpoints.  I had an Eotech, sent it back and got an Aimpoint.  Best decision I made.

If it were me I would send it back to the manufacturer.  I have heard that they are great about taking care of problems.  I have not had an issue to deal with EoTech customer service but why waste the warranty.

OASN: I initially started out wanting an Aimpoint but after seeing and handling both in the same time frame and same place I was convinced that the EoTech was the one for me.

Just make sure you dont drop it

or you'll be using the crack in the glass as crosshairs...eotechs are pretty wimpy when it comes to hard knocks. But maybe you like fragile things

I recently sent one of my EO Techs in for service, I told them straight up that I'd had it for a couple years and that I'd never sent in my warranty information (who does?).

They rebuilt it and sent it back in record time, no charge. +1 for EO Tech.

I broke a screw into that bar when i had the large knob screw.  I removed the torx screws and fixed it myself.  I dont see how they could tell.  Just do it yourself....

Eotech's Service is the best.

The screw which clamps the site to my flat top broke and I contacted them and they sent me a replacement screw kit. The thumb screw as well as the allen head screw.

A+ in my book

I have dropped it off the rifle on a hard concrete floor at least three times.  Did not secure it properly. No broken glass and it still functions properly.  When I picked it up off the florr, IT was still working.  That was three years ago and I still have it.

Next time you see PincoPalla on the boards, ask him about his EOTech accident.  He dropped an MP5 from a helicopter with an EOTech attached.  The fall was enough to ruin the receiver of the MP5.  The EOTech survived with a few scratches, and with no damage to the glass.

Why can't there ever be one EOTech thread without some Aimpoint junky chiming in about it?

You should send the sight back to EOTech, but......

The dove tail is held in by the protective cover, you can remove the protective cover and switch the dove tail around yourself.  the protective cover is held together by the hex srew on the side ofht ecover body.

Again, I stress you should send the sight back to EOTech for repair.

DR,

EOTech will wortk even witht he optic window cracked, that is something you can't say for Aimpoint.

I always see Aimpoint faithfuls come to EOTehc thread to chip in their .02 cent, are you guys that insecured??

To each his own. I refuse to own a so-called combat optic that has a large part of the housing made of thin plastic. Plastic of any kind will become extremely brittle and crack in extreme cold(-30 degrees and less) with any kind of impact. The Aimpoint's billet aluminum body will withstand impact in these temperatures.  I lived in Northern Canada for 10 years, and I have seen thick plastic and polymer shatter like glass when it hit the ground in extreme low temps. 70 below zero with wind chill factor is not unknown in Northern Quebec. The lack of a flip-up lens covers for the Eotech is also a liability in extreme cold as it can get coated with ice and snow.

Eotech is fine if you want a 'fair weather' optic.

I thought this was the question.  Not whether or not I should get an aimpoint or how much better an aimpoint is.

That would be a wonderful reply (misinformation aside) if somebody had actually asked for your opinion but in this case, it's just a response

That how it all ends up "Hey I have a question...?"  And the reply is usually "Well here is what I have and this is why it is superior to yours!" But at least its not exclusive to Colt firearms!

Fair enough. Although I would like to know what "misinformation" you are talking about. If you have ever done any hunting in extreme cold, northern climates you would know what I said about optics in subzero temperatures is accurate. I think the Eotech is outstanding for Urban and LE use, I just don't think it is durable enough for Military use. Anyway I apologize for hijacking.  Sorry if I was a

The US Army and SOCOM seem to disagree with you as they have ordered quite a few (the two orders combine to over 72,000 units).

they should hold up jusat fine since they have been in service far longer then the recent selection.

good news, Eotech just wrote me back via email, and said they wont consider the warranty void if i take off the metal hood since it was a manufacturing error in placing the locking bar in upside down.
ive since removed the hood and flipped the locking bar over.
ill find out sunday if the eotech can withstand  60 rounds of .50 Beowulf.
