Does anyone have any good links to explanations of how to properly bore sight a rifle?  I just bought a 4x32 scope, and would like to find out the best way to sight it in.

Are the laser bore sights good for doing this?

Thanks!

pull the upper off and remove the bolt carrier

put upper on stable surface

look down pipe at object 50-200yds away.  CENTER it

adjust scope to object

basically, you're using the interior of the barrell as a 0x scope

I'd stick to the laser bore sights.  If you get a collimator type one like me you'll have to add a riser clamp to get it high enough to see it on an AR.  Specially if you have a 16" barrel.

ETA: Just line up your sights with the red dot, easy.
BTW bore sighting is just to get you on paper,  you'll have to actually shoot to zero your sight.

I did some searching, and found one type that is basically like a cartridge, and one that  uses an arbor slid down the barrel to line it up. How does a collimator type work?

The cartridge versions looks good, are there any other makers besides Acu Sight and Red-i-Laser?

This would be on a 16" barrel, and I would like to get one that I can use on an SKS as well. Thanks for the links and suggestions so far!

why not just shoot a couple of rounds at paper then adjust the scope...

You boresight BEFORE you hit the range.  So you're already 'on paper' and in most cases fairly close to being 'on target'.

Does anyone know a better place to order these?  Or is factory direct the only option?

Laser Bore Sighters are awesome!

I personally use the one from SSI (www.ssi-online.com) and couldn't be happier. I bought the "kit", which covers every thing from .22 to .458. All you need is a couple of AA Batteries and 18 - 25 of space.

If you live around a "upscale" Wal-Mart, they'll usually have one on the shelf for about $45. I'm sure the other major companies have it in their online stores.
