Is the Daniel Defense the best thing to install over a shaved FSB or a low profile gas block?  Will it fit over a chopped FSB?  I'm thinking that the Troy would actually be the easiest, but it's significantly heavier than the DD.

ETA:
If anyone have pics of the process involved in installing a DD I'd love to see them.

Norman74,

I don't think it will

Pretty sure that even the FH has to come off first

I know that the FH and FSB/gas block have to be removed to get the new barrel nut on, but I think (and I could be mistaken here) that once you get the barrel nut on, you can install the FSB, gas tube, and muzzle device before you screw on the DD.

The two gas blocks we use with no problem in conjuction with the DD rail is Badger Ordnance speed block(very light} and the PRI.  You can install either of these and then slide the DD rail over it.

Denny-
Does that mean that a shaved/chopped FSB won't work?

Nope, they will work just fine.  We do them all the time on pinned barrels.  Generally we just touch up the cut off part with cold blue as they don't show much or we can re-park the shaved base for a gnats ass job.

We just generally use the gas blocks as the labor is much less for us.  If you are doing it for yourself  you can save some bucks with a little sweat equity.
