I have a stock Bushie and am having the Bushmaster complete float kit installed.  I have asked around and some people have said that in order to add the float kit I will need to get a new gas block installed too.  Something about the weight of the float kit  making the gun front heavy.  The recommendation was to get a lighter gas block and have it put in at the same time.

What do you guys think?

What is "the Bushmaster complete float kit"?

It would have nothing to do with weight. Only clearance.

The float kit comes with handguards and everything.  Completely new parts, no modificaiton of the old ones.  Bushmaster offers two variants when ordering.  The "complete" float kit and the  "tube only" kit.

If you have a carbine and get a carbine lenght FF tube, you can use whatever gas block you have right now.  If you plan on having the FF tube extend over the gas block, then you need a low profile gas block.  I'd post a pic, but Hunt101 is down.

The Rifle is the standard 20" barrel and the kit came with a new gas tube that is the right length.  I guess I won't swap out the gas block.

Thanks for listening everyone.

BTW anyone know a good gunsmith in the phoenix AZ area?

We could help more if we knew what handguards system (name & length) you will be using.

I've used 3 different free float systems and only one of them required I change the gas block (and it had nothing to do with weight).

Edited to add:  Are you talking about a DCM type free float system by any chance?

Yes, it is the DCM system from Bushmaster.  Bought it from the website

You'll need to remove the FSB to install that unit - but you don't need a new one.

May I ask why you selected that unit?  Are you competing in DCM matches?

Gearing up to that.  Bought the gun with the SS barrel and have been adding parts as I go.  Trigger here, sights there, finnally up to the float kit.  Getting 1" to 1.25 in groups now, waiting to see what the float does for accuracy.
