Does a chrome moly barrel need to be broken in? How does this barrel perform differently from other barrels? ie stainless steel Which is the best barrel for everyday use? for bench rest shooting? 357mag |
| I found this thread www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=203305 that partly answers my questions. |

For what I've read and experienced: Chrome lined barrels last a bit longer and are easier/less worrisome to break in. Chromemoly wears a bit faster, is a bit more worrisome to break in, but is slightly more accurate. Stainless is all that chromemoly is but more accurate... However, this accuracy that we speak of is probably of the amount that, outside of competition, is irrelevent. If you care about that extra 1/4 inch, go with a stainless varmint gun. If you are just bench shootin and plinkin, like me, go with chrome lined. This is just my .02 Someone correct me if I'm off on anything. - BG |
