OK this is my first build ever here -  I now have my barrel & gas tube installed on the upper, and I need to install the flash suppressor.  I have a "crush washer" and a Phantom.  Is there a right way and wrong way to put the washer on?  I read that it is not a good idea to torque the FS on with the upper in a vice as it could torque the barrel crooked.  How should I vice it then? On the barrel?  What's the best way to do that without damaging the barrel?  Also, is it possible that the crush washer will "bottom out" before the FS is properly indexed? If so then what?

As always thanks in advance guys!

Anybody? I'm mostly concerned with how to torque it on without damaging anything.

Brownells sells aluminum AR15 barrel vice blocks for $20-$50.  The $50 set has a rubber liner to help grip the barrel and prevent damage.  I figure I'll try making a set out of some scrap oak I have around the house.
