1987 when I started shooting 3 gun at our logal club. Back then we didn't give a rat's ass for colapsable stocks and flash supressors in competitions. I can't remember how many CAR's I passed on because the the lousy cheek weld on it and the muzzel brake quickly replaced the useless flash supressor, ah, those were the days, but they are here again!

1974 I shot an early ar15 the one with the charging handle in the carry handle. It looked like a  trigger. I cant recall if the charging handle moved with the bolt or if it stayed forward. I was 15 and hooked. Uncle sam bought the rest I shot for many years.

July 1988, Lackland AFB Tx. I barely qualified... It was humid and my glasses kept fogging up; We had finished the confidence course the day before and my knees and elbows were chewed up... It was 5.56mm ammo too, not the .22 lr conversions they tried a few years earlier.

Next time I touched one was 3 years later as I had to requalify...

I Shot my first AR-15 (SP-1) in 1975. It had the old triangular forend. I Bought my own CAR-15 (SP-1) shorthly thereafter and still have it. I Didn't get to shoot one with a "Happy switch" (love that term!) until 1982.

January 1987 - had just enlisted in the USMC and was waiting to ship out.  Had the money and wanted it, so I went and got a Colt without really knowing what I was getting.  Just shot it a few times before going off to bootcamp.

I was at my local gun range 3 years ago when a local SWAT sniper let me shoot his own personal AR as well as his model 700 Remington PSS sniper rifle with a Leupold scope.  I'm still having wet dreams over the AR...I can't wait to get mine!

AR-15 SP1 in May 1982.  M16A1 by GM Hydramatic in the fall of 1980.  The M16A1 convinced me I had to have one.

Last winter.
I had earned the money for a mauser the fall before working at a pizza place and immediately i was hooked on shooting.
Held a friends AR-15, loved it, had to have one.  I sold off  a 1,000 dollar paintball gun i won in a drawing to a friend and fought a huge battle to have the parental units purchase it for me.
After a month or so of constant debate they caved and i ordered a CAV-15 16" A3 direct from cav-arms.
I was just 17 at the time.  It was quite a struggle convicing my liberal parents that i wasn't going to shoot up the school.  I brought out all of my ammunition to win the arguement, including multiple threads from this site, and pages from places like www.awbansunset.com.

They thought it was a dumb phase.  They know it's an addiction now when there are posters on the walls, cases of ammo coming in the mail, big brown truck deliveries multiple times a month, NRA stickers on the car, and of course the homepage for the computer is www.ar15.com!! I bought a membership to the local range and try to go once a week.  They finally warmed up and occasionally want to come with!
I turn 18 in two months and am already planning my next AR project!

I don't recall the date exactly, but I suspect it must have been about 1980 when I was in fifth grade or so.  My Pa had picked up a new Colt with triangular handguards.  He still has it.  I built my first post-ban AR-15 from Oly and American Spirit parts in the spring of 2001, and I put together a pre-ban M4gery last year before I knew I should wait until this year to buy pre-ban parts.  Now I feel like I got raped on that lower.  hinking.gif

Of course, I replaced my post-ban upper with a pre-ban, gotta get a collapsible stock next.

Gun show is this weekend, maybe I'll be able to score my next great deal or pick up a handful of 30-round mags.

October, 1988. I bought a used Colt SP1 at a pawn shop for $450, which was too much back then but I wanted it badly. The first time I fired it I said "What the f%*&!" when I heard the SPROING! Like a dumbass I sold it in 1991 to buy a new Colt HBAR. I thought I didn't "need" two ARs. What an idiot. I bought a 16" AR15A2 Gov't. Carbine to go with the HBAR in 1995. I will replace that SP1 one day soon hopefully.

Been a little while. My first firing of a civie AR was after I bought one. Didn't know how it would be, but knew I wanted one and bought it. Having it was the important thing for me. If its good enough for the military..... Was hooked from first sight, then trigger pull, been "boooiiinnnggg'ing" ever since.

1984, It was an SP1. The first firearm I ever bought, heck; I didn't even have a car yet! I saved my money for a long time, then went to the gun shop on my 18th birthday.  I got a used one for: $375 and a twenty round clip for: $8. Boy! You couldn't tell me nothin back then. Wish I still had that rifle.
