I'm ordering a new upper from Eagle Firearms and thought you guys might be able to help me out with my choice of handguards. Obviously the Bushy upper comes with the standard bushy handguards. BM M4 handguards are a $20 upgrade while the Colt M4 dual heatshield handguards are an added $30. I'm not exactly rolling in cash, but I'm willing to pay for good quality. What do you think, are they worth the extra $$? if so, how come? thanks for any advice |
| Check the Equipment Exchange before you go spending the extra bucks. Go with the base upper and shop there for your acessories. Your wallet will thankyou. |

On Colt M4 hg's, there are 2 sheetmetal heat shields. The purpose is to protect your hands from the heat radiating from the barrel, which normally only happens in full auto, or sustained semi-auto. The downside, according to some, is that the shields also retain heat around the bbl rather than dissipating it. Everyone else's hg's (that I know of) use a single heat shield. I would go with the BM hg's since the barrel is BM. Also, I prefer the more matte finish on the BMs. If I used full auto (I wish), or the bbl was a Colt, I might go with the Colt hg's. But that's just me. |

IMHO, its not necessary to have the M4 type handguards unless you just love the look. Regular CAR-type handguards work just fine, and in fact dissipate heat faster due to the single shield design. The dual shield design of the M4 type HGs works to keep heat off of your hands during rapid (read: auto) fire, which for many members of the military, is an absolute requirement. To keep the heat off of your hands, it traps it in the dual heat shields, and would transfer some outwards, as well as transfer some back to the barrel. However, heat buildup in a barrel is not really a good thing, and may work to decrease the lifespan of it. This point is not of so much import to military personnel, since their weapons are "not theirs", and if it breaks, they just draw a fresh one. So, unless you absolutely love the look of the M4 HGs, the CAR HG would probably serve you better. Bushie HGs are top notch from the ones I've seen. YMMV |
No, and in fact they retain heat longer. Check out Adrenaline_Arms on the EE for CavArms furniture. They are MUCH better than the horsey stuff. |
What he said- support two companies that support your right to have a gun. |

There is zero advantage to the M4 handguard (IMO) unless you have large hands and want a much bigger handguard, or unless you are shooting a LOT of rapid fire. Bushy's are bigger and have a single heat shield just like the standard ones. Colts are bigger and have double heat shields. |
| Colt uses an inferior polymer.Cav Arms are great.Bushy ones also good and has a single shield that covers the vent hole openings under neath. The rra ones also good but leaves the vent holes open.I have Bushy,RRA,and cav arms as well as M4 types from pete in NH and his are like the bushy ones at half the price and I love the Cav Arms ones best. |
