I was swapping out a collapsable for an A2 this evening.  All was well except when I got done I had an extra pin.  It's about 1/16" wide and 1/3" long.  It is a DPMS lower receiver and the only hole I could find was on the takedown pin.  Does that have a detent pin?

Or is it time to bag it up and go to someone who knows what they are doing?

Yep, it's probably your takedown detent pin.  If the pin came out, where's the spring?

I think everyone that tinkers with their AR has dropped either that pin or it's spring at least once.

Good call.  Found the spring about 2 feet from the bench.  Next question:  How does the the detent and spring reinstall in the takedown pin?

Remove buttstock

There is a tiny hole in the back of the lower on the right side of the receiver if looking at it from the rear. Insert detent into hole, then insert detent spring into hole. Carefully replace buttstock, carefully compressing detent spring with rear of buttstock until buttstock is flush with rear of receiver. This is what makes your selector stay in the safe or fire position.

I'm sorry, rear takedown detent is correct, not selector as previously stated. Installation is still correct.
