In the new Book of the AR-15 by Guns&Ammo, they claim that standard recoil buffer springs "lose an appreciable amount of function in about 2,500 rounds"  you guys buy this?  They reccomend a chrome silicon buffer spring from Superior Shooting Systems, Inc. for rifles that get a lot of use,  ever heard of these guys?

2500 rounds?
Damn, I'd be changing springs every other month.
Sounds like a marketing ploy.

I don't think you really need to change them every 2500 rounds. I have seen some rifles start to malfunction due to the buffer spring becoming weak do to use. I'm about to change one in a rifle that has somewhere around 6 or 7k through it. I haven't really had any problems yet, I've just noticed the spring doesn't seem as strong as it once did.

Wolf makes a +10% buffer spring. Anyone try these?

I'm using the Wolff xtra power action springs in all my ARs.  Combined with a heavy 5.5 ounce buffer and an M16 carrier they really smooth out the recoil impulse.  Another plus is the +10% spring provides a more powerful BC return...

I have a SSS chrome silicon in my AR.  It's an immediate improvement even over a new stock spring.  It will last forever.

Superior Shooting Systems is a company founded by David Tubb.  He is a ten time National High Power Rifle winner - ten times!  He KNOWS what he is doing.  Everything he sells is top notch.

I try not to buy special parts.  I have found that I usually like them and convince myself that all of my ARs need it.   A $20 grip ends up costing me $200.

Nope.  Check the length, replace as needed.  I've never needed to replace a buffer spring and I've shot alot more than 2500 rounds through my ARs.  I've got one buffer spring with 8k+ rounds on it and it still is within spec.

David Tubbs is an OUTSTANDING marksman.  He knows just about everything about long distance shooting.

However that doesn't make him an expert of materials/springs nor does it make him an armorer.  The Army has been using 'the other springs' for decades and hasn't seen a need to improve them.

I guess the old saying "if it aint broke don't fix it" comes to mind. However, just because something "works" doesn't mean it can't be improved upon. I think a +10% or a chrome silicon buffer spring might just be worth a look see.
