How can one tell the manufacturer of an upper? Is there a common, yet not easily visible place where this info is often stamped? I have a 20", heavy bbl, with the flat top style upper, on a Century Arms lower that when I received it, hadn't been fired and is my first AR. I have done some research and it appears the lower was possibly made by DPMS, but Century backed out or something and don't even list this rifle (lower) as theirs. I seriously doubt I'm dealing with any of the major manf. here (ie, Colt, Bushy, RRA, etc.) and I moved to FL recently and have lost touch with the guy I got the weapon from. Forgive the newbie questions, etc....just learning to love my new black rifle money pit and trying to figure out what the hell I have....can post pics, if it would help at all. Thanks in advance, especially for the site and all the valuable resources and knowledge available here. |
IMHO, biggerhammer is pretty far out of date. They haven't kept up with the newer forging companies and don't reflect the fact the fact that a "keyhole" forging mark on an A2 upper receiver could be Bushmaster, RRA, DPMS or even Colt. Colt, Bushmaster, LMT and a few others actually stamp their barrels. RRA and many others don't stamp their barrels at all. Some like Olympic, only put caliber stampings on the barrel, no twist info or anything else. Its not easy to tell what is what anymore, except for stuff like Colt, who actually have their own unique barrel stampings and receiver forging marks. |
