Well, I since I now own a RRA carbine, I figure I would build my next one. I wanna know how much it cost to build a reliable (yet low cost) AR. Post some of your projects (please include where you got the parts if at all possible)

THANKS

Depends on what you want?   I just put together a Cav Master (Cav Arms lower, Bush master Upper carbine) for $535 all from parts gotten on the Equipment Exchange.

Thats easy..

Goto a gunshow and get a lower receiver for $100 (Or less at times)

Goto GunsNstuff's website and order the DPMS complete kit for 16 or 20 inch for $399.

Done. All new parts.

Lots of places to find deals on lower recievers.  Just pick what logo you want and the price you're willing to pay for them...

www.eaglefirearms.net
You can get everything you need here: Lowers, RRA internals, and Bushmaster barrels (not displayed on website)...

www.adcofirearms.com
Or here...

I've ordered from both of these sites with good results.

There are also lots of good links in the EE and Industry forums.
Figure out exactly what you want and shop around...

In a nutshell, you are talking about $400-450 reasonably, you might be able to do it in the high $300 area if you are super thrifty and trade around.  HTH

Mega lower ->$85
Olympic parts kit -> $450 ($480 for 20")
FFL Fee -> $20-30

That's about as cheap as it gets without going to 'Model 1', Hesse/Vulcan, or similar

I happened to get a deal on an oly-arms forged lower locally ($125) which saved me the transfer fee, and Oly was having their anual 'summer partskit special' -> $400-425 complete A2 partskits...

So I had a $550 AR that would have cost $750 + transfer if I got it NIB off Olympic Arms' website...

I would just get the Bushy lower at eaglefirearms.net $270
Buy an M4 upper at CMMG, 1/7 twist, M4 feed ramps (or so they claim), Chromed bore/chamber. $500.

$770 for a very good rifle, probably a little more then what you were hoping for.

Well I have been thinking lately... how hard would it be to convert an A2 to a flat top? I have an RRA midlength A2, could I just buy a stripped F/T reciever? Im not exactly an AR-expert, should it be sent to someone or is it something that can be done by myself?

THANKS

Here is my build in progress for my brother (all new):

1. Complete lower with A2 Buttstock: Stag Arms = 193 + ~20 for FFL transfer
From Eagle Firearms on the EE

2. Upper with FA and DC: RRA A4 Flatop= 90
              From Legal Transfers on EE

3.  Charging Handle:  RRA = 17            ( am sure you can find one cheaper but a few bucks...)
                From same as above

4.  Gas Tube:  RRA = 10
                From same

5.  Bolt/Bolt Group: RRA = 99
                From same

6.  Barrel with HGs and Delta assembly= BM 20" chromelined H-bar (that is what he wants so don't say anything ) = 209
...I have seen barrels cheaper but it is a hit miss opertunity on EE so this is my back up)
                From, you guessed it, BushMaster

7.  Carry Handle: Colt= Free
                From Yours truly

Total:  $668

A little more expensive than others but again this brand new quality shit and only a back up plan if I can't find or miss any good deals on the EE.

Sure:
DPMS stripped Forged lower $99
RRA A2 complete buttstock $55 but with separately purchased w/Aluminim spacer  $4.95( I hate plastic spacers)
DPMS lower parts kit $45
RRA chrome lined Barrel $190
forged upper $78 complete
Bushmaster Bolt carrier $120
RRA bolt $40
RRA charging handle $19
already had a spare set of hand guards

Total $652

(OK I cheated - I forgot I got the Bushy bolt carrier for Christmas - make it $652 for my total build)

Dr. that is the same price range I have been hitting consistently, I can't seem to really dive beneath that price for quality new stuff.

Is your upper an A2, because if not you did not include rear site price.

No it was a flat top, but I already had optics and hadn't put BUIS on it yet. Add some more if you consider that part of the basic build. Really a kit is cheaper in the long run, I just bought parts as I got the cash.

Just keep your eye open, there isn't one big bargain basement of AR parts.  The best deals are individuals selling stuff cheap.  Afterall, who is going to buy from Joe Schmo for the same price as OnlineARDealer.com?  I have over 20 project bushmasters, over a dozen completed, all for $600 or less.  Bushmaster stamped lowers, Bushmaster Stamped barrels.

Inexpensive doesnt always mean cheap!

I THINK IVE FOUND IT the cheapest built AR!!!  PS please don't buy it for your sake.... Cheap AR!!!
