I'm sure it's been done, but I'm new to this site and couldn't find where anyone has polled the members.  If you could only have one AR what manufacture, kind of barrel( 14.5, 16, 20, 24 Stainless vs. chrome lined) , A2 vs A3, and sights would you you have?  To add a twist how about keeping the total gun cost to under $1500  assuming it's new not used.  I'd pick a Bushmaster dissapator A3 (16" chrome lined) co-witnessed iron sights through an Aimpoint - no other extras.

I would build it myself, and include optics at that price.

Bushy A3 carbine, 16" barrel: $800
ARMS #40A: $100
Aimpoint + cantilever mount: $450
Cav Arms M4 handguards: $30
CQB Solutions SOP sling: $40

Not sure about all my prices...

Total: $1420

Now buy some mags for it...

Basically what I have now. RRA 16" SS pre-ban barrel with Vortex. (Vortex is modified over 22mm)
RRA lower with JP springs and Gogogadgets.net vertical grip. (not a pistol grip- ATF approved with letter).
CQB SOP sling
EOtech

I would like to get a Youngs free float tube and ARMS #40, but my cut down A2 carry handle will suffice for now.

Rifle with A2 carry handle BUIS ($800)
EOtech (used $200)
SOP sling ($40)

Add the freefloat tube ($250) + ARMS = $1500 give or take.

RRA lower with parts kit $155
LMT 16" M4 upper $485
Charging Handle $17
Bolt Carrier group $110
carbine stock $38
Carbine buffer and hardware $36
ARMS #40 $95
M4 HGs $20
Hogue PG $20
Gets a complete rifle for about $976

Leaves enough for a good optic or free float handguards and a VFG.

Of course, it's not a legal assembly right now. But it would cost about the same in true posty format.
