My wife's step-father's brother (ya, it's one of these) has an AR 15 (A1 style).  It is in better than good condition from what I saw.  It has the bayonette lug, flash supressor, and several 20 and 30 round magazines.  Due to a problem with his eyes, he cannot shoot rifles any more.  He tells me that its registration is current and everything is on the "up and up."

Does anyone have any idea of what the rifle and accessories are worth in California?  What is the best mannar in which he can sell the gun for the highest price (consignment, find someone himself, etc.).

Any assitance is appreciated.

Who makes it?  We need more info to give any guesses.  The info we need should be on the side of the weapon.

Can California residents legally transfer these?

Oh and yeah and like he said, we need to know make, model barrel lenght etc, a picture would be best.

Cannot buy, trade, lend or give away an "assault weapon" as defined by SB23 to a Kalifornia resident. You can however transfer out of state.

Edited to add link:

This should help you answer some questions.

It is a Colt with what looks like an 18" barrell.  My local gun shop offers to buy "assult weapons."  Are they then selling them out of state  if such rifles cannot be transfered in CA?

Yes, that's correct.  It is even illegal for a PRK registered AW owner to *advertise* that he has an AW for sale, even if the transfer was to go through an FFL as legally required.  No, no Gun Broker or Auction Arms sales.  The only legal way to dispose of a registered AW is to either sell it to an in-state FFL who possesses an AW permit (who will give you pennies on the dollar for it), or personally drive it out of state and sell it to an FFL (who will give you a few more pennies on the dollar for it).

There are no legal transfers of AWs in the PRK, and no one but the registered owner can have possession of the rifle.  You could shoot the rifle in his presence, but possession away from his presence is illegal.  And remember: this is PRK state law, so unlike the Federal AW Ban, every LEO in the state is charged to enforce it.

How far from the border are you?  If you are willing to drive to an out of state FFL and send it to me, I'll give you NICKELS on the dollar.  Cmon, what do you say?

Seeing as how the laws in Kalifornia are written you will  have to drive him, and the rifle out of the state to sell it. Good luck. I would be willing to pay dimes on the dollar

Living in Louisiana, the bayou state, a very very gun friendly state, it boggles my mind just how far left the Left Coast has gone. We all need to pay attention to and keep our politicos aware of our electroial power and determation. If not the "Left Coast" will migrate east, and friends that sucks ass. I think some of us (my self included) are sitting back and relaxing too much right now just because W is in the White House, the polls are looking a little vague for me and that bitch from PRC on the hill is already bitching about the AWB sunset. A lot of guys are more concerned about which rifle set-up they'll get after the sunset than writing letters to the hill to make sure the sun goes down.
It isn't time to count the chickens yet, fuck, I wouldn't even count the eggs yet.

Sorry if I seem to be railroading the thread and the long rant, but this poor guy's delimea could someday be a federal one.

Bill

Edited to add, price will depend on the AWB, @ less than 95%  it is a shooter, ban goes down, $650, ban stays in, $1200, sell now and you can play the emotions of speculation somewhere inbetween.
