Hello guys, I am building a precision rifle and I am trying to decide on a barrel, I want a 24" 1 in 9" bull barrel fluted, I know that I can go wrong with a Krieger but it is around $500. I looked around and I saw the Olympic Arms Ultramatch for under $300, Wilson has match barrels for under $300 too. Is it worth to pay $200 extra for the Krieger? Could you guys recommend me the best barrel for the money? Thank you in advance.

Check out DPMS stainless barrels.

It really depends on what you want out of the rifle.  For me, the extra accuracy gained would not offset the extra $200.  Check out the match barrels offered by ADCO.

What do want to do with it? If you buy a Wilson for $200, odds are it will hold the X ring at 600yds, for 2K rounds. After that the TE,  may cause the X count to drop, but will probably still easily clean 300yds, and hold the X at 200yds. Spend twice as much for a custom barrel, it may last longer. How good are you that you'll start to see the effects of TE?

Thank you for all the replys, I want to use the rifle as a varmint rifle and I'll be shooting as far as I can, I been looking at some barrels that you recommended, here is what I got so far...

Bushmaster 24in Varminter Extra Heavy Barrel Assembly
DPMS 24" Bull Barrel w/Aluminum Gas Block
RRA Varmint Barrel 24" 1:8 varmint weight barrel
Oly AR/PCR 416 SS Broach-Cut Ultramatch® bbl - 24"

What do you guys think? Am I missing any other good barrels? Thank you again guys.

I just did the close to the same thing, call Compass Lake.
CLE

They will be the best to deal with go to 1/8 so you can use 77MK and 80MK. They have a chamber that has a shorter distance to lands for lighter bullets and you can get up to 26" in length. htese guy's are one of the best in the AR business and pretty fast turn around time. Read the testamionials on there Douglas barrels about 98% as good as Kreiger for about $275.

I have a CLE-AR15 CMP Service Rifle with a Kreiger barrel. It is a 7.75/1 twist stainless and with Black Hills Blue Box (read re-loaded) 68 gr Hornadys, I can get off sandbags with the CLE irons, 3/4" @ 100 yards all day long. Boy that feels good. Some of my other rifles do well to do that with a scope.

I consider Krieger but they are expensive, that is why I am wondering if it is worth to put that much money into a Krieger, other barrels are half the price and the advertising makes it sound as if they are just as good.
I seen the web page for CLE but I don't know the address for White oak can someone post it? Or for that matter could you guys post companies that deal Krieger? Any more advise will be greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

One other thing to consider, when I bought mine I was going the benefits and costs and I called CLE and talked to Frank about this. He pointed out that their Douglass barrels were just about as good in the accuracy dept as the Krieger but the Krieger has cut rifleing  and the Douglas has button rifleing, the result is the Kreiger will last about 25-30% longer. When I considerd this along with the cost of installiation (I know you can do it yourself, but people like CLE and White Oak match a bolt to the barrel), the Kreiger seemed to me to be the better deal. Give them a call and ask them, I did, they are very helpful and don't try to constantlu up-sell you. I am veru happy with mine.

I put a Pac-Nor barrel on my last varmint rifle, it'll put three shots (6BR) into a ragged hole any time I do my part and cleans easier than any rifle I've owned before.

They have a nice choice in AR barrel configurations: www.pac-nor.com/ar/
