Can't find any info. on this company-obviously defunct, but does anyone know if they built prebans or were just a parts[receiver] supplier?
Anyone have any experience with their lowers?  TIA,Ghost

I can't tell you much other than they are not total defunct.

I just bought a brand new PWA lower just 2 weeks ago and it looks just like a preban one I have which stands to reason as both where actually made by LMT. If you are looking for a new one, contact RB Precision.

I have a PWA receiver and I't one of the better receivers you can use.  I wish I had another just like it.  If I remember correctly, all of the PWA receivers are preban.  Altho, PWA never made complete guns, just the receivers.

I wish that were the case, as I have a PWA that I would love to have in pre-ban config, but alas, it is lower receivers with a serial number of 35222 or lower.

PWA is a brand name made by Lewis Machine and tool.  They are one of if not the primere AR15/M16 manufacturer in the U.S.

PAC WEST ARMS. YEs they are all pre-ban and good receivers. They are no longer manufactured.
Edited to add: I was mistaken in saying they were all pre-ban; apparently some postban lower receivers were made as well. This is what I found:

PWA
35222 and Below - Pre-Ban (Note:Some lowers are cast not forged.
Out of business)
Post-ban have a year prefix in the serial number.

I've just purchased a postban PWA lower, so they can't all be prebans.

Sorry; I have edited the above post. I was going by what a friend of mine who has one said. i did further research and they did make a few post ban receivers.

PWA receivers are marked Commando.  Bought out by Rock River.

Very high quality forged receivers.

Most were preban, some postban.

More erroneous info....

RRA bought their manufacturing equipment after PWA closed their doors.  Yes, they are excellent lowers though

Thanks for all the info. and links, guys. This seems to be an early one. Ghost

All of Rock Rivers first receivers were PWA's. I saw about 50 (complete rifles)of them at Camp Perry in the RRA store when RRA first started. There wasn't a single receiver in there that said RRA on it.

Is there some way to tell whether the receivers are cast or forged?  I've got two prebans (32,XXX and 33,XXX) and both seem very high quality with great fit and finish.  Just curious, because I don't think any lowers out there from big name companies are in danger of failure due to being cast and not forged...

Generally, forged lowers have engraved rollmarks, while cast lowers have raised lettering.  The late PWA lowers were forged, maybe all of them were...

I have been buying , building up, and using PWA lowers since the mid-eighties.  They NEVER built or delivered a complete rifle while in business as Pac West Arms at Olympia, WA.  Their 'kits' did not have barrels, in fact, you could not buy a barrel from PWA at all.

My earlier lowers were purchased directly from Pac West Arms (PWA) in Olympia, WA.  The lowest S/N I have is 56XX purchased in Sept 1984.  It is a forged unit.  Over many years of 'playing' with ARs, I have NEVER seen a cast PWA lower.  I tend to believe that the "reliable" information found elsewhere on the site regarding cast v. forged is B.S.  I believe that the "some early units are cast" statement is an urban legend.  Someone please show me a picture of a cast PWA lower and I will be a believer.

Additionally, I have never seen any date codes in any of the serial numbers.  I own 3 lowers that are supposedly post ban in the 41XXX serial number range that have no date code.  Show me a picture of a date-coded PWA lower and I'll be a believer (again).

I just picked mine up from my FFL and its perfect. I could not be happier with it. Fit and finish is top of the line. It also matches my LMT uppers finish perfectly.

I'm thoroughly confused. If they are out of business, is this NOS showing up, or has someone revived the name? Not flaming, just confused.

I would love you to get an accurate an answer to that. These are not NOS, they are newly manufactured and nobody seems to be able to answer this riddle?

I have a PWA receiver 34xxx and the only thing that I see diferent is the you can't use and
Accu-Wedge because the upper receiver don't close. Don't have space on the botom.
