Is it feasible to switch out the Car guards and gas tube and replace them with mid length guards and tube? I have an Oly pcr 5 that I'd like to convert to midlength.

it's possible but not practical. Involves a whole lot of work.

1. Moving FSB forward
2.Pluggining the only hole
3.Drilling a new hole
4. reataching the FBS

If you are not setup to do this by yourself or know somebody that can do it for ya 4 cheap, it will cost ya pretty penny.

You are better off just buying midlenght barrel

If you're just looking for the longer handguards, it might be possible to do this without as much work.

1. Get some midlength handguards and a new FSB.
2. Cut/dremel/file down the existing gas block until the new handguards will fit over it.
3. Mount the new FSB forward of the existing one in the right place to hold the handguards.

If you have a permanently installed muzzle device, you'll have to get a clamp on FSB or gas block, but it will only be serving as a place to secure the handguards and the front sight, so it shouldn't be a big deal. The risk here is if you cut the existing FSB down too far and created a leak in the gas system, you would have to replace it.

I've never tried this, so its all speculation and don't blame me if it doesn't work and causes the end of the world. ;)

I've basically done just that......with the new clamp on sight base in the front. You will probably have to use the cav arms fat/no taper handguards and they have more room to work with. The handguards are so close that I actually had to remove some material ithe the very front so they fit around the existing "shaved" gasblock to make it work.....it is nip and tuck, but it can be done.

Here is a picture of my AR47...it had CAR length handguards when I got it....I later used a fake can to hold the handguard cap in place instead of a second front sight base....same idea though
