| Which one is the best? I've seen two diffrent kinds of spanner wrenches. One type has only one notch on it and another has three notches. I'm guessing I need the one with three prongs from what the stock looks like.Thanks. |

The one with 3 prongs is for "newer-style" telestocks (nut). I have 2 newer style telestocks and one older one (original style). This is the one I use for all and it seems to work just fine for all of them. Extra Heavy Duty Tele-stock Wrench ![]() This is the "older style" or original telestock. Notice the single hole on the buffer tube nut, hence the need for the single prong wrench. ![]() This is the "new style". You may can't tell by the pic but it has several square-like holes on the buffer tube nut. This makes the the 3 prong "new style" wrench better to use. ![]() I think you'll be fine with the wrench I showed above. Most people will probably tell you that you can use it for both....I do. |

My favorite has to be this spanner wrench. It's about 1/4" thick and heavy duty. Being able to use any 1/2" drive, one can use a breaker bar or get anal and use a torque wrench to the proper specs. The pin is held in by a set screw so if you damage the pin - no biggie as it's easy to replace and can be flipped around or even custom pins ground and installed if that's your thing. The pin fits round and square holes, and doesn't matter what the spacing is between them on the ring. I won't use any other again. I have used this to take off Colt factory staked on telestock castle rings with nothing more than a slight bit more effort and no special techniques. You can get them from Brownell's here It's spendy but well worth it for someone investing in the proper tools. |
