This is most likely the Bushmaster 16" hbar carbine, A2. They have always called it the "Shorty", until this years catalog. Now just the "16" Barrelled carbine".

Or is that the "stubby"...gotta learn the lingo..either term is ok by me as long as its used in reference to a rifle and not my "gun" :)

The "Stubby" stock is only a few years old.  The Carbines were refered to as "Shorties" un until the "Stubbies" came along.

Is $ 625 used about the price or should it be higher or lower. I haven't seen it but it's advertised in the paper. He's about 50 miles away.

That is a pretty good price if that is the configuration you are looking for.  You would be hard pressed to build one with bushy parts for that price.  The best I see these priced at is 699 plus you gotta pay tax background ect.  I would go ahead and buy it if the condition is good.  If you ever want to change anything you could just swap out a new barrel, stock ect. and sell the other on the EE.  You can't go wrong with a bushy for 625, while your there see if he will thow in some ammo/mags.
