Why do some Colt bolts have small angled cuts behind the locking lugs on the bolt? I have seen Colt bolts both with and without these small cuts. The bolt I have is marked 'MPC' and has the cuts. Can anyone inform me on this issue?
thanks Scott

I asked this same question a couple of weeks ago. They are stress relief cuts and Colt is the only one who does it. I have two Colt "MPC" bolts. One has the cuts behind every lug and the other only has cuts behind half the lugs.

How new is this practice of making these cuts? I recently saw a 6400 that didn't have the cuts.

Not new at all. I've got three Viet Nam era GI surplus bolts, and they all have the cuts

It's on the old bolts. Like the M-16 bolts we got from CDNN.
Current colt bolts don't have them.

Thats what I thought because this bolt I have is a take out of an M16A1.
