Before the end of the year I’m planning to have enough money saved up in my stash to be able to buy an AR. I know what I want, but I would like some advice on what brands and options to consider and which ones to stay away from.
I’m wanting a match rifle, one with a nice trigger, and a stainless fluted barrel (stainless preferred but not necessary, I just love the look)
And eventually I would like to an upper in .45 ACP, and be able to use the old Thompson stick mags.

What twist ratio would be best

It sounds like you would want a 1:8 twist.  You could go for a 1:9 and maybe build something a little lighter but still get stainless.  Check out these barrels: www.adcofirearms.com/rockriver/rockriverbbls.cfm?page=rra.  ADCO could build you a rifle using the CAR SS barrel and a RRA national match trigger.  That way you could have a standard type AR/barrel but with the features you desire.

Just a thought
