| I saw a post awhile back that said technicaly, 5.56 and .223 are different rounds, and they realy shouldnt be used in guns chambered for the other. My question is, is there a bore designed for both cartidges. I just recently noticed that my bushy is marked .223 -5.56 MM. I take it that means I can use both in my rifle. Is that right? |

Typically, if you have a 556 chamber, you can safely fire both 5.56 and .223 rounds. If you have a .223 chamber you can only safely fire .223 because the 5.56 has a higher pressure load. (Kind of like how a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square). A nice intermediate chamber, IMO, is the Wylde (sp?) chamber that RRA offers on their rifles. It is intermediate in size between the 556 and 223 chambers. I hope I got all that right. |

OK - this 5.56vs .223 thing is mentioned a lot on this forum, but I'm not sure it passes the straight face test for me. While there may be some dimensional differences in the chamber, and in the SAAMI pressure-spec, I have a hard time believeing there is any real safety issue. Maybe non-optimal accuracy, but does anybody have any FIRST-HAND experience of a KaBoom because of using 5.56 ammo in a .223 rifle ? Come on guys, educate me !!

So what your saying is I probably have a 5.56 chamber, and Buhsmaster(for whatever reason) just decided to put on the rifle that it can also shoot .223? |
