OK, I just got my RRA 16" LAR and I have a few questions. These will probably sound stupid but when it comes to ARs, I'm just that....stupid. Ok, here we go...... What in the heck is this forward assist for?.......I mean, the gun feeds fine so why would I need a forward assist? How can I tell if my barrel is Chrome-Lined?........ Does RRA make Carbon uppers/lowers and how can you tell if your AR is a Carbon or a forged? I paid $750 for this Brand new RRA so what does that tell you?.....Is this an entry model RRA? Is there a way I can give my serial # to RRA and get all of the specs on my rifle? Why is RRA not listed in the Industry section of AR15.com? Thanks for your help and please excuse my ignorance..... RRA is forged aluminum. Probably not chrome-lined but if it is it will have a light silver halo around the chamber. You can see this when you remove the bolt carrier. The forward assist is a military requirement. RRAs are top quality. You have a great rifle. RockRiverArms.com |
Check with the guys in the ADCO forum, they sell RRA. www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=2&f=130
The only ignorance is when you don't ask questions. Enjoy your rifle friend. |

The forward assist is to allow you to close your bolt even when the ammo or chamber are a little dirty, or if you need to chamber a round quietly. Under ideal conditions, you'll never use it. Your barrel probably isn't chrome-lined; only certain runs of RRA guns are chromed. Only Colt uses different serial numbers on different standard models, as most manufacturers make a lot more configurations, and use whatever parts are necessary to fill an order. Thus, no one but RRA is going to know what configuration your rifle is by the serial number. The upper and lower receivers are machined from aluminum forgings. RRA is not in the Industry section because they don't have the manpower to have a representative here, and because they chose not to pay the board fee for a forum here. There was also an "incident" regarding some of their earlier rifles that got ugly back when they had a forum. -Troy |
| Don't worry about it, RRA has a lifetime warranty on all its parts and RRA represents the best quality in low end ARs on the market right now. Its about as cheap as you can go (with the exception of 'kits') while maintaining quality. Don't worry about your rifle; it is of good quality and I'm sure it will last a good while. Just stock up on good USGI mags, grab some cheap ammo and go shooting! |
