Which one do you prefer? What produces the best performance? and What is the most durrable? Thanks for your comments, I'm working up my first build and I wanna get it right the first time. Brad |

Depends on what you want to use the gun for be a little more specific. Chrome Lined if you just like to shoot and plink and dont care a whole lot about accuracy even though chrome lined barrels can be very accurate just not as much as chrome moly or stainless, Chrome Moly or stainless steel if your a sticker for accuracy. I personally like chrome lined because the chrome acts as a dry lube and aids in the extraction of the shell. Plus I like to backstop blast. lol |
best performance and most durrable? i'd say from that stand point get a chromemoly... its a good barrel for the user that wants the best of both worlds... i of course wanted mil spec chromelined because I feel that it is a benifit in a combat medium ranged carbine... |
...or if you're a expert+ class shooter - with handloads. If you're out to compete seriously or tag varmints at 300+ yards, then stainless or CM is the way to go when building from scratch, but for the average shooter with factory loads I agree that the difference is not significant. Shooters with good quality chrome lined barrels can turn in very respectable scores. I'd take a rifle with a chrome lined barrel and a good trigger over a rifle with a SS barrel and a lousy trigger. |
