Im going to install a 3 rail gas block on my bushy this weakend. The barrel has some minor scratches and I now know that the barrel under the front site is bare metal. My question is can I paint the barrel with a high heat paint or am I better to just touch up the bare metal under the front site post. If painting is possible how well does it hold up and what type of paint did you use. Thanks |

I have not had a chance to use it yet but Steve Lauer just sent me 2oz of his new product DuraHeat. Here is the press release he gave me. Lauer Custom Weaponry's DuraCoat Products Division has just released a new high-heat coating for the firearm industry. DuraHeat is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1800F which makes it perfect for machineguns and suppressors. DuraHeat is a one-part, air-cured dcoating that is easily applied with an airbrush or automotive spray gun. A spreading rate of 700 square inches per ounce allows the user to coat appreximately (20) .223 suppressors with a 2 oz. bottle of DuraHeat. DuraHeat is packaged in 2oz., 8oz., 16oz., qurats and gallons. A 2oz. bottle of DuraHeat sells for $29.95 plus shipping. Lauer Custom Weaponry, DuraCoat Products Division 3601 129th St. Dept. SGN Chippewa Falls, WI 54729 http://www.lauerweaponry.com Steves DuraCoat and CamoCoat products are fine for regular-use barrels but if your worried about the heat I would try the DuraHeat. All of the Lauer products are top notch. |

Hmmm five mags in that period of time doesn't seem much....a good way to test it would be dumping two or three beta mags as fast as you can. Not to start a flame here, but i've personally SEEN Lauer Custom Weaponry's DuraCoat peel off barrels after a few mags of bumpfire. Dont know about that DURAHEAT new stuff though, sounds promising. Just a thought. HUNTER. |

Quoted: I was wondering if the high heat engine and header paint that duplicolor makes would work it is supposed to be effective up to 1,800 . There are plenty of people who have used the ceramic duplicolor hi-heat. Just make sure you get the higher of the heat ratings. |

I should add that the most important thing you can do is properly prep your barrel before painting it. Degrease it VERY well, then heat the barrel in your oven at low temp, and watch as mor eoil come sout of the pores. Degrease it again. After it is degreased, warm up the barrel, make sure you don't touch it with your fingers (oils in your hands), and then spray multiple light coats. |
