Just how is the M16A4 configured when issued to an infantry unit? I'm not talking about any of the hi-speed versions like the SAM.

From some photos, and scuttlebutt that I've managed to hear, they look like this;

flat top upper (of course)
20" 1/7 A2 profile barrel
carry-handle rear sight
M5 RAS and varoious panels
front grip (optional?)

Any comments, corrections, or additions are appreciated.

The basic ones show up with carrying handles and no RAS.  It all depending on your on what you will get with the weapon.

As far as accessories, it probably depends what the specific unit orders and then issues?
(just a guess?)
I suppose items like, LAMs, NV, VPGs, folding BUIS, optics, just depend on budgets and an individuals position in the squad or fire team.

FN shows 2 models of M16A4 rifles, not much difference between the two (RAS or no RAS)?

If you run a search for FM 23-9 you can see what Uncle SAm says constitutes the M16A1, M16A2, M16A3, M16A4, M4 and M4A1.

Lot's of other good stuff in there too.
