Personally, I've held one and didn't see the point of it. If you're in a hurry, just slap the side of your receiver with an open palm. That sould do it. Edited to add: It's a valuable tool for those extremely tactical commandos who've been a SEAL, Green Beret, Ranger, Marine and Swat all in one lifetime. (then again, those guys know that the AR15 sucks, and they prefer to stick with the SKS) |
| I don't like to have my trigger finger inside the trigger guard unless I'm about to shoot. Using it to activate the bolt release kind of violates one of the safety rules. Yet another solution to a non-existent problem, where the bolt release is now on the AR is fine and much copied on other rifles. |
I have the Model II Bolt Release![]() I just got to use it this past weekend and I was pretty happy with it. It's going to take a little retraining for me to use it when locking the bolt to the rear... a little awkward for me for some reason... but I like it near the trigger guard. I thought it would work really well with the Tac Latch... I'm not so sure of that yet. I think it's a cool thing to have and not a major mod to the gun. The safety issue is kind of moot if you instinctively put your rifle on safe between mag changes... if you don't do that then safety probably isn't a huge issue anyway. If you're going to use the "what about in combat" line for not putting it on safe, then your barrel is more than likely always going to be pointed down range/Front Toward Enemy, so it's not a big deal if you ask me. For about $50 bucks I don't think it's a huge price to try something new... if you don't like it throw it on the EE and someone else might give it a try. There are a few different versions of them from different manufacturers... mostly looks as I assume they all function the same. Just becomes a matter of which on you think is the coolest looking. Here's a couple others... Medesha Creedmoor |
