Spent 9 years in the Army and have missed my M16 since I got out 2 years ago. Finally broke down and got a Bushy flattop M4 with the very loud but effective Mini Y Comp. Now I need some additional toys for it but don't know what direction to go. I like the Samco M33 and M44 handguards, but how stable are they? Can a holo sight be mounted to these? Are they much heavier or bulkier than the standard handguards? For home safety, I like the Mag-Lock in the bushy catalog. Anybody know how secure and easy these are to use? I know there is a better topic board for scope questions, but I am lazy and it is late. I want to add a holo sight. I like the look of mounting a holo in front of the carry handle. Is this done by using a Z-rail or something like the Samco M33 handguard? Putting a Z-rail on a flattop seems like a bit of a waste. Or am I better off just removing the carry handle and mounting it there? My bushy has the fixed front sight, how does this work with a hollow sight? I also like the IOR Bucuresti M2 Tactical scope. Anybody have any thoughts on this scope? Will this scope clear the fixed front sight without alot of problems? I know this is alot of questions, but you know how it goes when you have a new toy. |

Welcome to the club bro. [beer] I'll see if I can help out a little and have the others fill in the gaps. First off, with your rifle, you have 3 general mounting options. 1st option: Remove your carry handle like you stated and place the optic on the flattop (you would have to do this if you want a full scope) 2nd option: Keep the carry handle and factory handguards and use an ARMS #39A2 mount and mount a holo sight on front rail. (click to see what I'm talking about) http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/scopes/arms39.asp 3rd option: Get new handguards. Depending on the setup, some require to be mounted to a flattop while others can be mounted with carry handle still on. Although more expensive, I would recommend something like ARMS SIR or KAC RAS II. These are very strong and will support optics. As far as the Mag-Lock I've never used one. Again, decide on what type of optics you want. As far as holographic sights EOTech and Aimpoints are the best IMO. If you were to get a holographic sight and decide to mount it to the flattop (carry handle off), you might need an ARMS Swan Sleeve depending on the optic you choose. Swan Sleeves put you optic up higher and allow co-witnessing with iron sights (EOTechs do not need this). I've used and/or owned most of the gear you mention. Here are my comments: 1) Fobus M44/M33 these are fine for lights and/or foward grips (I've got both in use now). I would never use one for optics or bipods due to barrel flex. If you want to mount either bipod or optics than you'll want a free-float handguard setup. 2) Bushmaster Magazine Lock - great device to lock up the rifle (especially if you display yours in a glass case). Very easy to use, and secure once its in place. Just don't lose the keys (I wish they had a combo version). 3) Mounting the Holosight - best mounts to use would be the PRI Mount or the Coolie mount - either will put it in front of the carry handle and allow co-witness. 4) You won't notice the front sight (its too close). At worse you'll see a 'shadow'. |
