I'm gonna be getting an LMT 14.5" M4 upper from C4igrant probably and I'm trying to decide between one of the new phantoms or the Vortex.... He carries the vortex, I would have to send him a phantom for him to attatch it. what would you choose? |
| I personally like the looks of the early-style Phantom (with the jagged end). I've never been a fan of the pronged Vortex, and I assume that they are still made that way. There was also a problem with some of the Vortex prongs breaking off, but I think that it was related to a bad batch and has since been corrected. There really isn't much of a difference in the two as far as performance is concerned. |

Quoted: The Vortex is a better FH, but the enclosed Phantom is less likely to catch on things. Ditto, my vortex did a little better hiding flashes (not much), but I swapped mine out with a phantom b/c the vortex's prongs were catching onto things. You won't go wrong with either. |

There are two new designs to the Phantom and they both incorporate the lack of downward facing ports which create a dust signature when shooting from the prone position. I have the newest model Vortex-G6 on my carbine. I don't loose sleep worrying about 0.27" of steel breaking. It appears to be very rugged. I shoot Lake City XM193 ammo, which has an enoumous muzzle flash from post-ban carbines. With the Vortex, there's almost no flash at all. I guesstimate that it kills about 97% of the flash. What is left is a faint, dull red glow. |
