Hey Guy's, how can you tell a Colt upper reciever from any other make,ie: Bushy,Oly,RRA,etc. |
|
It may be difficult because the markings on an upper are the markings of the forger and not the finishing company like Bushmaster, RRA or Colt. One real give away is the "M4" or "4" stamped above the gas tube. Other than that, you can use this as a general guideline: http://www.biggerhammer.net/ar15/uppers/ |

a true Colt upper will have a "P" inside a triangle, & a "C" inside a square lightly stamped on the reciver forward of the ejection port.., they can sometimes be hard to find, so break out a magnifying glass, the stampings are about 3/16" to maybe a 1/4" in size, some stand out quite well others have to be looked at closely..... i hope that helps...... |

This may not always be the case. Colt buys their forgings from a number of different sources so the "true Colt" markings will vary from forger to forger. |

IT IS ALWAYS THE CASE !! after Colt receives the upper receiver from "various sources" they inspect them & stamp their proof marks on them.., having a CM without the proof marks simply means it never went thru the Colt factory. that is what a Colt rep. told me....... |

If that's the case my NIB Colt 6400c never went through the factory because it doesn't have the marks you described. |

OK..! let me put it this a way !! i do not own any post ban Colts, all mine are pre-ban colts & EVERY one of them (14) have those proof marks.....!!!!!! what i was told applys to PRE-BAN only, apparently !! i think maybe some of you are not seeing thos proof marks because they are very lightly stamped. look again, they can be hard to see...... |

It's cool bro, no one is giving you a hard time. We're all aware that Colt has been the most inconsistant when it comes to features and proof markings. However, I would never use the words "always the case" when it comes to anything Colt produces [;)] |
