| I need help deciding on this item also. Which bolt would you buy for a semi-auto AR15 that will be a SHTF rig! LMT's new enhanced or Smith Enterprise's chrome bolt system. Is there really any advantages obtained from the additional $80.00 for re-designed lugs and extractor? Thanks guys. |
| I think the LMT bolt is far and above the better, but the extractor is unique. In a SHTF scenario, you would be screwed if you had to replace it, assuming you didn't buy spares. I am not aware of S.E. having a unique bolt, if it's just chrome - many others have this. You would be just fine with a Colt bolt (M-16 and AR-15 bolts are essentially the same) with HD/Wolff spring, and stock some extra springs and extractors. There are advantages to the LMT lugs and extractor, but it's a small enough edge that your budget probably doesn't warrant it. BTW, carriers aren't headspaced, the barrel extension is. A bolt would have to be seriously screwed up and hideously worn to not be within spec. |
| I recommend you keep an eye on the EE board as they keep popping up. Make sure it's a real bolt and bolt carrier assy by learning the proper markings. If CDNN gets them back in stock, that's one of the best deals going! Just remember to replace the extractor spring when you get it. |

The part number for the Colt bolt at CDNN is COL99. Anyone looking for it might want to call to make sure they are actually out. They are still showing in their newest catalog. 1(800)588-9500 They have run out in the past only to list more a couple of weeks later. In fact, when I bought mine they weren't showing on the site. It can't hurt to check [:)] |
