A “Four Point” Leg Match!!! Rumor Control, (and now verified by CMP to be true) has it that there will be an Excellence - In -Competition (Leg Match) that will award “FOUR POINTS” to the top 10% of the shooters. Starting this year at Camp Perry, on Aug. 5th, 2004 the Whistler Boy Match will be fired on Rodriquez Range and a Leg Match will be fired on Viale Range. No Distinguished Shooters and No “Leg Holders” will be allowed to shoot, they will be asked to coach (Coaching to “what degree” is not known at this time). New shooters will be fire the M-16’s used in the Small Arms Firing School and will use Ball Ammo that will be drawn from the Army. Since the shooters will be drawing a rifle and ammo that they have never fired, it is imagined that some sighters will have to be allowed. CMP has not worked out all the details yet. This in effect will have “Two” Leg Matches during the Nationals. I would imagine if a non- leg holder would place in the Leg Match on Wed., they then would not be eligible to shoot in the New Shooter 4 point Leg Match on Thu. Keep in mind the Shooter may use his own rifle and own ammo in the Leg Match on Wed. He may NOT use his own rifle and own ammo in the one on Thu. He must use the rack grade M-16s and the Ball Ammo. Since this posting will last only a few days on the board, I will post it on my web site www.JarHeadTop.com Jim Owens |

This is of interest to me - Since I want to compete at Camp Perry either this year or next. BUT, I still have no idea how this scoring system works, some of the terminology ( 'leg' match? ) works. From what I understand, competing and placing in the top 3 in a match will earn you points - 30 points will make you become a distinguished marksman, I THINK. But what is the point of the 'leg' match? |
