I’ve recently bought a Colt M4 upper receiver that has a raised broken letter “A” and a raised letter “C” above the ejection port side. It has “M4” stamped above the clover gas port in the front. I think it’s a Colt but I haven’t seen any with these markings, just ones with the “AF” and “C” with the “M4.” I was wondering if I got hosed on the price if it’s not a Colt and just a generic brand. A buddy of mine says it’s an Olympic Arms or DPMS. If anyone knows if it’s a Colt or not I’d gladly appreciate it. Thanx

That should be a Colt.  Check this link to verify it's status.  Scroll about a quarter of the way down until you see a post by CJan_NH.  This should clear it all up for you.

Does the splintered "A" look like the one in this logo?

If so, it's actually an "A" over an "H" and that stands for Anchor Harvey.

Does your "M4" over the cloverleaf look like this:

If so, rest assured that you have the genuine article [:)]

Sounds like a Colt to me...

One more thing to check - does the upper have the extended feed ramps?
