Does anyone make a two piece Round/Freefloat forend for a standard rifle that goes on and attaches like the orginal? Any info will be very helpful. If anyone has a forend laying around that they are not using and wants to sell, give me a holler.
Thanks Guys
Bill

What is your standard rifle?  A2 or A3?  What size are the current handguards?

If it's a flat top with CAR length handguards currently, I would recommend a Knights RAS II.  Pretty much fits on just like your standard hand guards with the delta ring.  Then a set screw attaches it to the rail of the upper.  Very solid setup, installs in about 5 minutes.

Or possible a Knight's RIS system.  I don't think it requires and modifications either, and will work with either an A2 or and A3 upper.

Do you want accessory rails incorporated into your free float forend?

I dont need the rails, was hoping to find something in a round tube style. Something that I can put on without having to pull the front sight ect.
Thanks

I don't know of any free float tubes, other than some of the Knights, that can be installed without removing the front site base.  But I am no expert on those.  Try e-mailng Wes at MSTN, he is an expert on such things.

This one is a two piece, so it may go on without removing the front site.  Not sure though, just throwing out some options.

I think the two piece design is refering to 1-barrel nut 2-forend tube, if that's the case the front sight and FH has to come off.
KAC RAS II is for short handguards, I think you will have to go with one of the full length ARMS SIR's systems if you want to free float without removing the barrel nut, FH & sight.

I assumed "two piece" meant it was similar in design to an RAS II.

No, a 1 piece tube when mean that the barrel nut and tube are all one unit.

Most tubes are two piece with a barrel nut that has threads on the outside and a long tube that threads onto the barrel nut.

Some are 3-piece which are similar to a 2-piece except that they add a locking nut.  The advantage of a 3-piece is that it allows you to thread the tube on until it is where you want it including the top and bottom then you tighten the locking ring against it to lock it in place.

To get a freefloat tube that can be installed without removing the front sight base:

- for a carbine handguard you can get an SIR, an RAS II or the new handguard from GG&G.

- for a rifle the only option I'm aware of is the SIR.  $400 and weighs close to 2 pounds, but there it is.

I don't know of any plain tube style handguards that can be intalled without pulling the front sight.

Thanks Guys, Guess that I will just have to bite the bullet and pull the front sight and do it right, was hoping to cheat alittle.
Thanks Again

The front sight is very easy to pull, just knock out the two taper pins and slide it off.  If you rub grease on teh outside of the barrel it makes it easier to slide off and reduces the risk of scratching the finish on the barrel.

Now if you've got a permanently attached muzzle brake, that makes it a little more complicated.

Do not fear the installation of a one-piece FFT...I just did one on a Colt HBAR and it took a total of 20 minutes.  In fact, I'm a relative newbie to ARs and did it nice and slow so as to not mess things up.  Buy the right tools and you won't screw it up.

I went with the Fulton Armory Liberator - good price/value ratio.
