I know this has been asked before but it's quicker to ask again.  A friend wants a DPMS and can't decide between 20" or 24" bull barrel.  He's most concerned about accuracy.  The local gun shop made him a good deal on a 20" bull with removable carry handly.

What about the 16" super bulls?  Are they any more accurate?

I know the 24's shoot but don't know anything about there 20's. Velocity is really not a concern.

Thanks.

I believe the velocity increase of a 24" over a 20" isn't very much. If the gun is gonna be strictly a bench rifle, then a 24" would be best but if its gonna be used for hunting too then a 20" might be more desirable.

a 24" barrel will do everything a 20" barrel does, but not the other way around.

I personally haven't noticed a big difference with the two.  But unless you're shooting past the 600 yard mark I'd go with 20".  Why carry the extra weight?  He might want to think about picking it up sometime or shooting while standing of kneeling.

Can't go prone all the time and they don't have benchrests while hunting.

How does everyone's Dpms shoot?

What are the average groups?

Just got my Panther Bull Sweet Sixteen yesterday.  Still in the tedious break-in phase.  Will let you know.  Beautiful rifle,  I don't doubt my purchase one bit.

I have a 16 inch DPMS Classic Panther and I have not had any problems with it.  I purchased it about 1 year ago and would not hesitate to purchase another one.  I would also stick with the 20 inch unless it was going to be a bench rest rifle.

I have the Classic Sixteen and love it. You get more rifle than you pay for.

These were the first few shots out of my DPMS 16" bull

http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=180862&w=searchPop .

It was 20 deg out so I did not have too much time to bring the scope in but this is what I ended up with at 100 yards.   I can assure you the weapon can do much better it will just take a little fine tuning...
