Do "Orlite" Magazines function properly? What is your opinions of them? Thank you |

Quoted: Do "Orlite" Magazines function properly? What is your opinions of them? Thank you I bought one. It functions flawlessly however it is a poor investment in my opinion becasue it is very fragile. The feed lips are cracking and the slots the baseplate slides into are cracking. I bought it new, have about 150 rounds through the mag. I am not particularly harsh with my equipment. I certainly would not use it for anymore than a range mag. |

I've got 10 of them...so long as I don't load them to 30 and keep them loaded for a while, they're fine. If you down-load them to 25-28 for storage, they should function fine when you take them out; that's how I keep mine, and they all run fine when I take them out 6 months later. The only thing I don't like about them is that it's too easy to wear the mag catch dimple on the mag, preventing it from staying in the rifle if you really scratch it up. (One mag I have won't stay in the rifle if it has more than 20 rounds on it; it just bounces out.) I'd suggest USGI mags first, then Thermolds and Orlites second. |

I just love to be the weird one. I have great luck with them. I bought 5 at a show for $5 a piece. They needed the little "rib" thingie on the side filed to fit my Bushies, but since doing that they run great. Dunno if I'd trust my life to them, but I don't use my AR's for combat. I keep them loaded up, drop them on the ground, whatever. Keep right on tickin. |
| I use nothing but Orlites in my Colt M4. They work flawlessly but you have to get the open ear type- the closed ear type will crack if you overload them and store them. I keep all mine loaded pretty much year round without any problems. However I only use the open ear type. You can tell by looking at the back- if the ears wrap all the way around back they are closed ear- if they just stick up on the sides they are open ear. I have seen Thermolds have the bottoms blowout and dump rounds everywhere if they stay loaded- saw this happen on two seperate occasions. If you can afford the USGI or Brit mags then get them otherwise get open ear orlites. |

I had nothing but trouble. Why mess with them? If you look, you can find $10 USGI mags.... so why even bother with $8 Orlites, that will eventually crack and fail? I could not stand mine.... doublefeeding, cracking, pieces of garbage. Got rid of all of them. The only thing I would use an Orlite for is to wipe my arse. [:D] |
| I wouldn't waste my money on them. My first Bushy came with a couple. Constantly had feeding problems. None of them would hold the bolt open after last shot. I think they were some crap the dealer was trying to get rid of. I sold them and bought some USGI's. Haven't had a problem since. |

Ultimately its a matter of your own tolerance of failures and jams. I used to be a big Orlite fan, and I had six as range mags. Then I began to notice (I'm a little slow on the uptake at times) that the only times I had jams was when I was using an Orlite. The USGI's are always reliable. I decided life is too short to spend clearing jams. Every time an Orlite would cause a jam, it went in the trash. You can save maybe, what, three or four bucks over a comparable USGI? Is it really worth it? |
