How many of you use a vertical foregrip? I've tried one once, but haven't decided if they are really faster or more comfortable. I believe they were originally developed to use as an alternative to a standard shooting grip when your rails are loaded with lights, lasers, sights, etc., because of a weight or hand position issue.  However, I've seen in many pictures some guys use them stand-alone, with no accessories.  Just wondering what your reasons/opinions are for balance, handling, and target acquisition as opposed to a standard handguard...  thanks all

They first became needed when hand guards made of aluminum with rails were too hot to hold. They are best served in QCB, but in the field and needing to go prone they are a pain in the butt some times. It all depends on the application.

I've used AR's/M-series for years without one and now after having use one for about a year now. I think they are great. very comfortable and help with my natural point of aim. And if you wnat to try one, there are systems to be had that are dirt cheap that will give ya the feel befoe you go with a more permanent system.

Jack, I disagree - the mag is certainly longer than the VFG. so prone is a non-issue for me.

I like 'em on CQB type guns, and am going to try it on my 20" M16A4gery since I have a spare grip hanging around.
