Even if the ban goes away and nothing like it comes to replace isn't it true that Colt will still only make Sporters and no AR-15's?

I think they stopped making them in 1990 right?

I've heard that they will no longer use the term "AR-15" on civilian rifles, even if the AW Ban sunsets and is not replaced.

Legally though, could they?

Yes, because it would be like the AW ban never existed in the first place.

This makes me think a Pre-Ban Colt even with all its crappy features might be a better bet then something else.

Colt stopped putting "AR-15" on civilian rifles long before the 1994 AWB. Both of my 1991 era preban blue label Colts say "Sporter" on the lower.

Sporters, AR-15s, Match targets, all the BushMasters, Olympics, Rock Rivers, Armalites, ect...ect...lol.... same thing, different name. Nobody stopped making anything... They just changed the name...  If we are talking about buying a first AR then for the money I would not go with a Pre-Ban Anything...Unless you have the extra money then why not...lol... If your on a budget and this is going to be your first AR then go with a post ban... That extra $500-$1500 for the title of "Pre-Ban", a stock which collapses 3 or 4 inches, a flash hider and bayonet lug could be spent on other goodies and hey if the ban goes away in the fall then all those "Pre-Ban" features can be added then...[jump]

I agree with you 100%, but God forbid that AWB is resigned the Pre-Ban AR15 will go up 50% in value and price.
I like the collapsible stock, bayonet lug could care less, flash suppressor yes that is the only way to go. The brakes on the PostBan Rifles are nothing but vibration and noise. Flash suppressor noise and no vibration.
Since I joined AR15 one year ago the prices have dropped on the PreBan AR15 at least I think so. People are cashing in just incase the AWB does sunset.
