I recently entered the market for an AR-15, but don't have a lot of money to spend....max $700.  I have been looking at a Hesse Arms AR, and was wondering if anyone has any insight into how well this particular company does in the market.  I have been shooting AR's for about 9 years now, since my father has built numerous Olympic Arms and Colt AR kits, but I don't have the skill nor the funds to follow his work.  Any insight is appreciated.

Welcome to the board! [beer]

I'll come right out with it...NO HESSE's!!!

Head over to the Equipment Exchange and find yourself a lightly used Bushmaster or RRA but stay away from Hesse.

Or build your AR and be able to say you know how it works!

A $100 lower receiver from the company of your choice, combined with a $400+ kit from the likes of J&T Distributing, Model 1 Sales, M&A Parts, Sherluk Marketing...

The only special tools you'll need are a set of roll-pin punches, which should run you $10.. Instructions for assembly are right here on ar15.com.

Thanks for the posting.  Is there any particular reason that Hesse is not a good buy?

Trust us stay away very far away from them.  Cast receivers i believe and all around bad choice all they few and far between are people who say they love theirs.  Buy a bushi or any of the A,B,C's or Rock River I hear they are great too.  Your in the right price range if you look hard.

An aquaintance of mine who has built numerous AR's said tuat Hesse handles ok, however is it worth to just buy an upper receiver that is made by another company.  Is the lower built well enough to warrant buying another brand of upper to over come the cast upper offered by Hesse?
