What kind of groups are you guys getting at 100? Wes, SMG Lee ... anyone? Thinking of building one for work. |
| SPR has kind of become a generic term... The kind of accuracy you get will depend on many things, not least of which is your skill level. If you have an above average skill level shooting for groups, with a good set up and good ammo you can easily achieve 1/2 to 3/4 moa at 100 yards. If you are really good and have a great set up and ammo, less than 1/2 moa is surely poissible. I will be taking mine out to shoot at 600 yards tomorrow and am very excited. I'll report back later. |

Well, MSTN sold me one that started around .7 MOA, and another to Raptor22 that was something like .38 MOA if I remember correctly. MSTN won't even sell one to you that doesn't group under 1 MOA. IMO, under 1 MOA is good (better than Crane spec), 1/2 MOA is great, and under 1/2 MOA you are a lucky MF and I want your rifle. Several manufacturers guarantee 1/2 MOA or better though they are not even SPR's. I am confident there are people attaining 1/4 MOA or better with select SPR's. Are you having SPR envy, looking at buying/building one, or trying to see if your's measures up? I would ask Wes at MSTN directly about his results as he tests many, many SPR's, and they are the real deal not just a homebuilt target/varmint rifle most people have. Ask CLE what kind of results their customers report they are getting, and I am sure you will be impressed. |

Apparantly NSW don't like the Mk12's they got very much, according to Frogman over on tacticalforums.com: They suck. We hate them. I spent a day trying to get mine to hold a consistant group and gave up. It's clean sitting in the box back in the armory next to the rest of my sniper team's SPRs. They hate them, too. Frogman http://64.177.53.248/ubb/Forum12/HTML/000780.html Sounds like MSTN builds a better upper, since I've never seen any complain about them. I would buy one myself if I had the money... |

IF FROGMAN DOESN'T LIKE HIS CRANE SPR, THAT IS MOST DISAPPOINTING. COMPASS LAKE PROVIDES US TOP QUALITY BARRELS. PAUL AND I ASSEMBLE THEM WITH THE BEST COMPONENTS WE CAN GET, AS CAREFULLY AS POSSIBLE. PAUL AND I DO A FASTIDIOUS BARREL BREAK-IN. WE WILL NOT SHIP AN SPR UPPER/CLONE UNTIL IT DOES 5-SHOTS UNDER MOA AT 100 YARDS. YOU CAN TYPICALLY EXPECT SLIGHTLY BETTER RESULTS AT LONGER RANGES, AS THE BULLET BECOMES MORE FULLY STABILIZED. AFTER THE FIRST COUPLE HUNDRED ROUNDS, YOU CAN EXPECT EVEN MORE ACCURACY FROM THESE BARRELS. OUR OUT-THE-DOOR GROUP AVERAGE IS IN THE 0.70 MOA RANGE FOR 5-SHOT GROUPS AT 100 YD... AND GOING DOWN. ONLY A FEW HAVE BEEN .75 MOA OR SLIGHTLY MORE. AND THEY'LL ALL JUST GET BETTER. REMEMBER, WE'RE JUST SHOOTING OVER-THE-COUNTER AMMO, BUT GOOD AMMO NONETHELESS, NOT WORKING UP LOADS OR TRYING A LOT OF DIFFERENT BRANDS JUST TO FIND SOMETHING THAT WILL WORK. I DID 0.40 MOA WITH THE MOST RECENT ONE I BUILT, WITH BREAK-IN AMMO, NOT TYPICALLY MY BEST, I MIGHT ADD. "JC" SHOULD ENJOY IT. I MUST POINT OUT THAT I AM NOT A WELL-GROUNDED PRECISION SHOOTER. I SHOOT OFF AN OLD PICNIC TABLE WITH A SANDBAG ... NOTHING TOO ELABORATE. HOWEVER, I DO USE A GOOD LOWER WITH A KAC TRIGGER, GOOD 20-RD MAGS, AND GOOD COMMERCIAL MATCH GRADE AMMO. I DO NOT THINK I CAN HOLD BETTER THAN HALF-MOA IN MY SHOOTING CONSISTENTLY. WES |

Goodness, what spurred so many roster hawgs to start posting over here on AR15.com? Must have been something juicey to pull so many people over here. This is the 3rd or 4th name I've seen so far. Before long the catshooter himself will be mixing it up with the likes of us rowdies... Anyhow, I really wish I won the rifle raffle but no joy :( Did pull off an excellent deal on a barely 60's vintage used model 28-2 so that made me feel better. Welcome aboard Brian.. I mostly lurk on the roster but do post on occasion, been patiently waiting for the brewmiester to come back. |

Been lurking here a good long while bro. Old Painless (a regular here) is one of my best friends. Nothing better than learning from smart guys with money and the time and sense to test stuff. I would like to build an SPR clone. Maybe an 11 or 12 ... jury's still out. Been a cop sniper a long time and am used to 1/2 minute guns. Won't settle for less in a precision weapon. |

Quoted: PAUL AND I DO A FASTIDIOUS BARREL BREAK-IN. WE WILL NOT SHIP AN SPR UPPER/CLONE UNTIL IT DOES 5-SHOTS UNDER MOA AT 100 YARDS. Wes, It must really suck to have to shoot all those guns before shipping them out...[;)][:D] BTW, do you have any openings for a FASTIDIUS BARREL BREAK-IN Technician? |

The SPR Wes and MSTN helped me put together has been absolutely FANTASTIC. I was just shooting it today at 600 yards... Let me tell you, everyone around was in awe. Maybe myself most of all. First 3 shot group was under 3 inches. I started shooting 5 shot groups after that, and they were ranging from about 4 to under 5 inches. It was a blast. Had a wondefully attractive young woman with us who had NEVER ever shot a gun like this before and she hit the 600 yard pepper popper on her very first shot. She called and hit every 6" balloon she shot at on the first shot. (Yes I have pictures on her!!!) Its a 20" stainless Krieger barrel, 1/7 twist shooting 77gr Federal Gold Medal Match. The gun is ulrta durable, incredibly accurate, lightweight when you compare it to other guns as accurate. Im telling you, its more the gun than the shooter. I've taken that gun on several occasions, put it in the hands of utterly novice shooters, and had them making shots they never thought they could ever make. All you have to do is hold the gun still, if you can do that you will make your shots. |

Neil, thanks bud. What configuration did he build it in? Gimme all the specs (if you don't mind). My last three callouts were all close range gigs. Want something I can use at distance or for CQB. Sure like the (real) SPR look. What about suppressors? I know the original uses a Seeberger can. I can get one of those, but who does the barrel/flash suppressor work for 'em? Phil himself? Any idea? Pics? Rifle / Chick Thanks, BK |

Its a Mod 0 clone of sorts. Not exactly the same, but quite similar. PRI tube ARMS SPR rail, #22m rings, Leupold LRM3, Dr Optics dot sight, Knights trigger, SPR grip. Biggest difference in the clone is the barrel. I really, REALLY liked the look of the fluted Kreiger barrels. I had mine the full 20" instead of the tradtional 18.something. And mine is crowned, no brake. Heres a picture of that very attractive young woman making some sweet shots with the gun... | Ahh, a man of my own heart, one who looks for reasons to take hotties to the range. :) To quote Drill Seargeant Butler, "OUTstanding Private, highly motivated!" I want to get a chance to take Miss RSA to the range someday, supposedly she is going to school down here...Ahh we can dream! Cool rifle too BTW, I hope I can afford one someday. |

I've got to chime in on the Kieger Barrels...and the Blondes! I've got both, but the Kieger is paid for! I consistantly get less than .5 MOA with my 20" chrome/moly Kieger with 1:7.7 twist. With the BH 77 or 75 grain ammo it shoots even better at 300+ yards. Last 5 shot group at 300 measured 1.15"...I'm not the greatest shooter and I'm not bragging, the barrel is! |
